Hello Buick friends! Now i have a question about the 350 engine block. Is the block the same as the 455 block? Why I ask is because my frend has a 57 chevy with a 283 engine and if you compare them the 350 realy looks like a big block! Even the Chevy owner think so!!! Or is the Chevy 350 just as big?
Physically the 350 is smaller than the 455. The 350 block is a deep skirt block tho, making the block much stronger than the 455 block. Buick was the only one to do a deep skirt 350 block in the GM line up. Mark
Part of the reason that the Buick 350 looks so much bigger than the Chevy 350 is the deck height. Buick 350 has about a 10.18" D.H. and the Chevy 350 only has a 9.025" D.H. Even a big block Chevy(non-truck block) only has a 9.800"D.H. Buick 455 tops 'em all with a 10.58" D.H. As was stated above, the Buick 350 is a 'deep skirted' block - much better design! Same with the Buick V-6 block.
And to boot, the Buick 350 is gonna be several pounds lighter (somewhere like 100lb's lighter than a chevy 350). Stronger, no need for 4 bolt mains, and about as big of main journals as you can get... Dan
