I remember that perfectly,...some knucklehead picked up a rod and burnt his hand,.....but the obvious issue with that carnage was there was no oil on the track or am I mistaken? Seems like I remember them sweeping up and goin on with the racing cause I remember thinking wheres the oil??? Haha
At Quaker a track cleanup guy handed me a cam lobe and said : "this must belong to you...it's still hot"
It either blew up in the burnout box, or right at the line. I new it was at the very front of the motor, so maybe the first rod just decided to exit the motor and it was above the oil pan, so maybe that's why there wasn't much oil.
It was in the box at like 7k it sounded like I remember **** goin everywhere Then seen the guy pick the rod up ha
I didn't save any pictures but Jr & I must have broken 6 or 7 blocks till we got this procharger stuff figured out. Tomahawk block is the way to go now. 8:92@153 in a 3900lb Skylark & it is finally living.
Broke a camshaft once on top end that took everything in bottom out........knew the cam had to let go first, it never bent a valve and top end was perfect to use over....so the valves had to be a stay shut b4 4 of 8 pistons cam to rest at the top of bore.......I remember being able to stick my arm in one side and out the other.....ill have to find that picture.....
This is a really interesting thread that seems to challenge the conventional view regarding the limits of a properly prepared stock block. Obviously this is an important concern since most serious street/strip cars built these days are aiming at 650+ hp.NA. As a side note, I wonder how many guys have broken lifter bores because of aggressive solid roller cams or lift numbers above .600”? I’ve spoken with several cam grinders who said that with proper geometry and modern springs this should not be an issue. Thanks to those willing to share info.
I will have to see if Jr saved any pictures. Probably wanted to forget the nightmares. I know the one time I raced it at Columbus & it came apart at the 1000' foot thank God we had the diaper on because all that was left was the heads. Broke the starter, converter, trans & even dented the headers!
That's what in there the last 2 years. A couple of bugs at first with it but making big power now & living.
