It ought to be up to the op as to what happens to the thread. Logistic issues happen all the time but it should not take a public shaming of sorts to get a refund let alone a simple response from a seller. The seller should have offered a refund as soon as it was apparent that the pump was shipped to the wrong person..

I’ve bought a few cars and parts from him throughout the years and had considered him a friend for a while. Hell I was pretty young when I first met him and he hooked it up with parts and selling me part. Yup I’m grateful for it, even though some parts were questionable but we always sold each other or traded parts etc. he let me pay cars in payments because at the time I was young and had a lower paying job etc so yes very thankful.

Mind you, longest I took to pay for a car back has been around 8 months, I have the paper trail/ payments to prove it. That was the 67 GS400 I picked up. No engine. But super Solid, just had a salvage title which I found after but no biggie. I wanted to build it, just this is when it got a little weird. Took a while to get the title/ find it which I’m cool with since we’ve known each other for a while. Plus the car was in his driveway which I didn’t take until paid in full. The thing is if he reached out and asked for a payment or more, I would give him the date and come through with it.

As the past 2 years have passed things have changed and we’ve gone separate ways.

July 12, 2021 I bought a 70 GS 350 from him , paid 8500 through PayPal. Then attempted to pick it up a couple of times but his schedule wasn’t working unfortunately even if I wanted to send a tow truck whenever he was available.

I was okay with it since we have known each other, but it got weird, like something wasn’t right. Then I get notice that he isn’t able to sell it after all (not going to put his personal reasons out here) but I was okay. Then let me get the $ back.

Well the problem was he didn’t have the $ anymore but he said he’d pay me back.

He mentioned a couple of weeks but he would pay me , even if it’s in payments.

I accepted, even though I could have said it was not my problem he blew $8500 without giving me a car and within 3 weeks.

Long story short, I hate to ask for $ owed to me, especially from friends but I had to ask. I would get excuses every time and in those 2 years I only got 2 payments. First one was fine, the second came with extra comments not needed.

I have all the messages from the phone, he had even offered to give a bit more etc but I won’t post them.

Well it’s down to I’m not getting anything. He’s been trying to sell a car for over a year to give me the last $3500 so I pretty much gave up.

Might as well add consider it a donation.

What really irritated me was the fact that I had always been respectful to Joe, and he came out with comments thinking he was sounding threatening etc when I was pointing out reasons and excuses.

Along with that, the fact that a month after he blew through the $ I had to bury my brother in law because he got lymphoma and could have used it. He knew that too.

In all that time I even proposed to my now wife, got married , bought a home and I still didn’t get the full amount yet. I paid my wedding etc

Hell I understand $ is hard to come by but I worked my ass off for that $ and the first time I was able to pay him in full I did and I get this in return.

During that time he posted himself buying a new Jeep etc projects like he didn’t owe me. That’s disrespectful and yet I never went out of my way to attempt to intimidate or act like an ass towards him.

I never saw this thread till recent if not I would have chimed in.
Just careful if anyone wants to continue business with him.

Joe, at this point, I don’t care if you pay back but if on the off chance you feel like it Venmo PayPal whatever since you know the link and if not then it’s a gift from me to you since I’ll be fine without the $ it was more of principle and integrity.

It's called stealing. I have had this happen and the problem is, the longer it goes on the less the person who stole the money feels obligated to return it. I can't imagine sending someone $8500 cash and getting nothing in return. I don't run in the same circles as many of guys here where $50,000 to $100,000 is not a lot to pay for a GS. So to me, $8500 is a lot. 10 years ago I lost $3500 on a car from Canada when the guy who was supposed to go get it for $1500 and just bring it to the US, just kept the money. It's getting hard to be a hand shake guy.

In my experience, if the person who gets the money spends even part of it, you will never get it back. Honest sellers set the money aside in escrow. But when it gets to this point, it's essentially a shell game and the person with the money may never get right with amounts.

Thought about it but after reading up, they technically can't force someone to pay, even if it goes to court. It could be years before I even saw one cent. I just ended up trusting someone that ended up not being trust worthy after all this time.

You should still take it to court. It would be a civil unlimited case here in California. I would bet you would get a default judgement against him and then you could start turning up the heat on him.
