Jim, send your car over here. We have a track right at sea level next to the ocean, with cold crisp air. You will get .20-.30 without tuning anything

I tell ya. Best DA I have run in was like 850’-1000’ and that was 3-4 months ago. Napierville is known for incredible air. Would like to know what Kens car and Franks old car have run since those old videos were made.

Jim if you want some magic numbers, please go to CECIL in September with the NE Chapter in September or ATCO .Those are tracks that will produce the numbers YOU are looking for ? I never knew you went to Napierville ? WE ran Richard Lasseter's car OL BLUE at Napierville after we built it, before we delivered it to him, and it ran 11:50'S Here .Richard ran the same numbers at your track Jim ? I think Richard's car even went faster there ? There is a picture of Duane's GSX in the "latest" GS XTRA talking about the stock class at the GS NATIONALS. In that very picture, the GSX ran 11:40 ET in BG. That was a record run in the mid 90'S .The BEST the GSX "ever" ran was at the GS NATIONALS. We came home right after that and went to Napierville and the GSX ran 11:57 ET. We always got good numbers in BG. Napierville is an average track and within a tenth and tenth and a half either way by comparison depending on conditions.Ken Montour's car has run well into the 9's for a decade. There are several videos on you tube of Ken's car,and each of those videos are not of the same day but several different times at the track, the one posted is a combination of several different days. Several dozen passes. It averaged 9:80 all day long last time out. The best it has run is a 9:75 ET. I think I have a picture I can post from the last time out. We are presently building a new T/A aluminum block for Ken that is similar to the one we built for Bob Ortolani. We bought back the 464 Iron Head combo back from Ken to help finance his aluminum block project. You will see the 464 Iron block combo back in action again.Hope this give a better perspective of Ken Montour's Iron Head combo. It was making 800 HP.
It's a solid 9 second car. Ken drove it on the street. It had a full interior and exhaust system. Idled quite smoothly at 1100 RPM and still had plenty of vac for working the power brakes.THANKS

    Keith,

Dont get so touchy. I dont need to go to Napierville to know how good the air gets there. I have checked the online DA there and its very very good. Extremely good in fact. Especially compared to what we get here. And if you think Richards car ran better at Gainesville than in your air, you are sorely mistaken lol. I dont care what he might have told you or anyone else lol.

I only asked about Kens car because I saw it run in BG and it didnt run 9’s. But we hear about it a lot, and I hoped to hear if it backed it up.

I didnt mean to touch a nerve Keith so relax.

Hope to see you and the GSX in BG. Like you said, nobody knows how to port cylinder heads like you guys or how to make Buicks go fast, so I always look forward to seeing your projects and how well they perform!

Jim thanks for the quick reply.Yes you are right about Ken's car not running 9's in Bowling Green. He was never able to make a complete pass with the car when he was in BG. He blew out the sprag in his trans and the car would not shift out of first gear.Never
made it much past the 60 ft.New engine combo, old trans. It was fixed when it got back, and ran solid 9's ever since. What else can I tell you? He has backed up 9 second runs for a decade. You were asking about Bob Ortolani's car when it belonged to Frank Urbinati ? Frank won the Pro Street Class when it made it's debut in the mid 90'S. And out ran Jim Haas in The BIG RED KB 528 that was running 10:40'S.Frank's white X made it's first 1/4 mile passes in BG and was never run at a track before going to BG. It ran a 10:07 in the mid 90's at the GS Nationals in BG taking home the trophy and win in the Pro Street Class .We came back from BG and Frank ran it at Napierville and it ran a 10:10 ET at Napierville how close is that ? And after a number of passes and additional tuning it finally broke into the 9's.We had a BUICK meet back in the day at Napierville and a big gang from the NE Chapter came to our track at Napierville and were duplicating the numbers they normally ran at Napierville including our friend Greg Gessler. Jim, Richard sent me copies of his times slips when he ran OL BLUE out at your track and they were most certainly better than the numbers we ran at Napierville.I will contact Richard and ask him to send copies of the time slips to you.Jim I am not getting touchy.I am just trying to give you a perspective what Napierville is really like.Because you have never been there, and don't know what it is like to run a car there. You are welcome to come visit and bring your car.Jim we do NOT think we are the best, and have never said we are the BEST.We have never told you that either ?We do TRY our best though. Thanks for contributing to the thread. And inviting us to bring the GSX back out.We do plan to bring it back.Right now we have so many projects on the go several Stage 1 Convertibles frame off projects being restored a couple of Turbo cars to do, and several engine builds including completing Ken Montour's new aluminum block. We don't have any time or space to work on the GSX.I promise you when it does come back out it will be in top form.

    10 teens I believe.

I'm in the 11s with our 70 Stage 1. Cast iron heads, intake, ex manifolds and q jet. Our goal is low 11s and considering we're just getting started on this car I think that goal is obtainable. Full interior also. Would love to be the first stock appearing car in the 10s with pump gas. I know Gessler did it but not with pump gas.

No aftermarket parts needed! These cars can RUN if ya know how to set them up.
