I’ve had great luck with all Lucas Products. They all plain work. I will look into the octane booster for my Buick. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, you will need 1/3 more fuel by volume at any power level when using E85. So, if the system is almost at the limit currently, it will need to be upgraded to use E85. Our cars fuel system is at 67% duty cycle currently. It would be maxed out or close to maxed out if using E85.

Thanks, Couldn't we just add a gallon or two to a tank of 93? Seems I did that a few times w/ my GMC Syclone turbo.

A big concern that comes to mind is how fast E85 is liable to pick up water in a vented fuel system, both at the tank and at the carb. Probably not an issue if it's driven daily, but most classics aren't.

Another thing is "E85" can legally be as low as E51, so if you tune a carb for 85% you could end up running pretty rich on some pump fuel. Also an issue if you're looking at E85 for the octane. Flex fuel cars have ethanol sensors to automatically adjust the tune.

In the past, it was recommended to run a stainless tank and fuel lines, because the water would collect and cause rust. It's basically like running Heet in your tank during the winter. Nevermind what it does to the rubber in your carb and unobtanium Stage 1 pumps. That, and the fuel bowl in the Qjet is barely big enough to supply enough pure gas to a built 455, let alone needing 30% more.

Test kit is 15 bucks. Test your fuel.
Avoid stations who have low numbers.
Stations I find are consistent. Either Good or bad.
Teflon fuel line is popular. I know people using regular fuel line.
It’s an option. Works great. I put out the info I know works.
I’m trying next year. Or this spring I should say.

The e85 is great for compression engines and boost.
If you’re running in the 10.0 to 1 I’d try the Lucas as’ mentioned or racefuels additive as that works too.

I'm always leery of the old "makes "up to" such and such octane...." The middle can at least shows a range. Even then, how can you know for sure? In fact, when was the last time they even tested the octane of the fuel in the ground at the gas stations? I remember back in late 70's early 80's investigative reporters were finding fuel that came nowhere near advertised octane ratings. Granted back then there was a lot of mob involvement with some major gas stations skimming millions and millions of dollars via tax per gallon but also no doubt fleecing people with lesser octane fuel. Probably me to be honest!

If I use 93 Octane and add that stuff, it could make as little at 94 Octane or 105. But of course, anyone who uses it is going to think they're making 105 in their mind even though they know they don't feel any difference. Call me skeptical.
