Hello, I wonder if any of you in this forum will be going to rochester on July 12-17th this year?
And maybe could give me som information of what's going on.

Is this meet open to the public - I mean, I will not bring my Buick from Denmark to the US, I just had it shipped the other way!

Is this meet fun to be at, well I know that a lot of the fun you have also depends on yourself, anyway, would you advise my husband and me to go there or is there another Buick ( or mixed classic car) event that you would rather recommend?

We will land in Detroit on July 1st and go back to Europe on July 17th, we have a family visit in Ontario, Canada (just across the border ) but also spare time to see some car shows. We have a hire car but we are aware that the distances in the US is longer than we are used to. So please don't suggest something in California - anyway, we have been there! :bglasses:

    Have a nice weekend aweryone.

To travel from Detroit, Michigan to Rochester Minnesota would be about 631 miles, or just over 1000 kms, and means driving through the Chicago, Illinois area. There is a lot of road construction going on in south Chicago right now, so I wouldn't attempt traveling through there during the day. On the other hand, if you love an adventure, it could be fun.

That's about all I can help you with right now. Enjoy your stay in North America. :beer :beer

    Another route to Rochester...

Thanks for the warning about the road construction work, I guess we will avoid Chicago if we can.
What about this route?? If those old cars can make it in 3 days we might do it in 2? Is the ferry expensive?

    From the BCA homepage:
July 10-13, 2006 Flint, MI to Rochester, MN
A Flint-to-Rochester caravan, sponsored by the Pre-War Division, will be led by Brian Heil in his 1923 Model 45 Touring car. Brian will drive at 35 mph with planned stops for lunch and hotels. The caravan will meet Monday afternoon, July 10th at the Sloan Museum in Flint for a bon voyage reception and dinner. On Tuesday, the caravan will drive to Ludington Michigan, cross Lake Michigan on a ferry Wednesday morning, and arrive in Rochester on Thursday, July 13th. BCA members who want to join the caravan in route are welcome. Contact Brian Heil at (248) 456-2415 or email BTHLodger@aol.com

    Best regards from Jette

There is a northern ferry that was a neat ride when we took it. But I think since we were up there a high speed ferry has been put in service that lands over in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I like them beause they give you a break. My advice is to book the time and date for the ferry well in advance. We hope to see you at the BCA in Rochester.

    Caravan

Jette, There are several other "newer" cars, Like "The Old Guy" in his '40 Super going on this caravan, he will leave them when they get to Wisconsin and make it that same day. Brian is in KY right now with his '22 and will be back later in the week, you would really like the Sloan Museum as the Buick Gallery is full of very unique cars, in fact, just thinking about it, I may have to attend that reception, as far as Hotel in Ludington, you'd have to ask The Old Guy where they are staying as he set it up. I think you would have the best of best times with these folks traveling as I have traveled with them many times. The event is open to the public, but without registration the only thing you can't do is get into the hospitality room, but you could register yet to do that without a car.

    Hope to see you there!

    Buick Meet in Rochester

Hi Roberta- what's the hospitality room? If that is the only place we can't get into without registration I will have to know what's going on in there. We are a little unsure about exactly when we will arrive and how long we will stay so we would rather just take things as they come. But I will arrange for the booking of the ferry and we might be able to follow the caravan for some time even though we will ride in a new hire car.
I am looking very much forward to be with you guys in Rochester. And the swap meet too there's a lot of small Buick stuff I would like to buy.
Here is what we look like (my husband has grown a small beard after the picture was taken).

    See you. :beer

    The Hospitality Room

Is a room, in the host hotel, where you can rest, get a drink and a snack and talk with Buick folks. Usually nothing fancy, though. Look for you there.
