Does anyone have any insight as to the technical issues of swapping a 455 in an Xtreme S10 truck? I've had many GS's over the years and want to build something different than the every day Xtreme. (Which isn't easy to do! Lol)

I've seen a bunch of SBC and LS swapped S10 trucks, but no BBB swaps, yet. If you decide to go with it, it would be interesting to see.

    Welcome, by the way!

Thank you for the welcome! I believe it's a doable swap, just concerned with headers and the oil pan issues mostly.

Gary Paine put one in an earlier S10.. the truck was recently for sale here on the board. He'll have some insight.

I would get that both the oil pan and headers would require some custom fab work but I think its worth it.

I am sure it has been done.. But you might be the one writing the first chapter here. Either way I seriously want to see this one!

    I have a 1985 s10 longbed with a 464 stage 2 motor in it.
    I will post some pictures.
Has a mid plate in between the turbo 400 transmission & motor.
Uses stock buick 455 motor mounts up front with perch mounts welded into place.
I have the motor out right now and can take some detailed pictures for you.

    Here you go.
I will get you some pictures tomorrow with the motor out.
So you can see how the mid plate and motor mounts are setup.

Awesome! Thank you.. Are those custom built headers, or modified production ones?? Looks great!

    Here's the layout.
Was able to remove the motor with the exhaust system still intact.

    The headers were custom made.
Also the center cradle was cut out on the back side for the oil pan.

If yoyr wanting to keep any accessories your asking a huge headache,....the 455 is pretty wide,..a sbc is tight in one,....I would find a better way to beat my head against the wall man

I do know what your saying for sure.. What I'd really prefer to do is a 3.8 Buick Turbo swap, IF I could locate one reasonable at all. But haven't had any luck whatsoever in finding one that didn't cost as much (or more than) an LS!

I've been thinking about your post. The distributor in front blocks a spot for an alternator or ac compressor.. a crank trigger and a distributorless igntion system would open the spot up. Wouldn't be easy though.. a low mount PS pump would help too.

Heck a forged piston 350 with boost is fun!
