Early in the auction he claimed the convertible top was manually operated. I thought for a moment and even checked, but couldn't find any "manual" opening tops. Come to find out, the top just doesn't work anymore and that's how he opens/closes it, manually. Just thought it was funny as he is playing the car up as a real find (as dealers do)...
I wonder what the engine code is and transmission? I wonder if somebody transplanted stage one powerplant into it? Looks like a large pulley on the AC compressor.
That car is going to need a lot if you take a good look at the pictures. The fuel & brake lines are very rusty. The convertible top with the tears in the pads, I am sure the top will need to be replaced soon. Also most likely the pump, lines and hyd cylinders. It needs a complete interior, even the plastic parts will need to be replaced. The seat backs and sides are deteriorating. The engine does not sound good.
Shame it's a clone and not the real deal. The entire car inside and out needs restoration. Buy it for $25K, invest a modest $40K and you would have a nice car worth about $35K (in today's market)...
I agree, but more from yesteryear. I can barely afford the upkeep/modifications to my GS455. A gas tank here, a distributor there, all the itty bitty parts needed for clips, screws, window crank frames, new & shiny convertible top parts, on and on and on...F41 mod, fuel line mod to dampen vapor lock, header wrap, on and on and on... I will never have enough to get my dream paint job; which is basically just a repaint with hood stripes, some metal flake, pearl and a few layers of clear (each layer wet sanded/rubbed out before the next)...
I try to keep my builds on the budget side! It can easily blow out my entire bank account. That being said I have a buddy that is $200k into a 65 Impala and will be selling it at a loss. Some folks got the pockets for that.
I just added up most of the interior parts and that is about $7500.00. Another several thousand to install the top and covers. By the time the interior is finished with all the small parts, etc your going to have about $13,000.00 invested. Then you can start on all the brake and fuel lines and who knows what is wrong with the engine. It does not sound healthy at all. Some paint repairs, tires, exhaust and so no. Hard telling how much you will have tied up when finished.
It sold for $24,750. I know, I know, one man's trash is another man's treasure. My opinion is still it was a $7,500 parts car at best. Virtually nothing on the car worked, the Frankensteined drivetrain needed rebuilding, the top didn't work, the interior was toast and it was a total rust bucket inside and out. Love this economy...
