    any ideas on how much the stripped clean block weighs?

    I'd say more than 100 but less than 200... I can pick it up off the ground and lift it high enough to put in the trunk of my GS... Maybe the same or less than a Th350... Definitely less than a th400 long tail...

    Why the heck do I keep lifting things like this by myself...

    Well, off to go pop some more pain pills for my back.. I just don't understand why it hurts all the time..

    any suggestions for getting the block off the stand without a cherry picker?

    don't want to pull that last bolt and have it drop on my foot...

    if you figure that the engine weight = 475lbs to start, then:

    intake = -70 lbs (405 lbs)
    heads = -45 per side (315)
    crank = - 20 (195)
    pistons = -15 (180)
    cam, timing cover, oil pan & pickup, gaskets, fluid, etc = - 15 (165)

    have to think that its in the 150 lb area

    Yep...If you've got a stand that the rotating head will slide out of the upright...Just slide it out and put in on the floor or truck bed or wherever you want to put the block, then unbolt the rotating head from the block...

    uh...you would not believe how many times I used a cherry picker before I stumbled into doing it this way...:Dou:
