wondering if anybody knows how the ball joints fit....i bought a complete rebuild kit and im thinking the bottom ball joints are pressed in where as the top ones have bolts....im confused on why they would do this but hey maybe im wrong....any help would be great thanks. chris o No:
The tops ones are riveted in and the replacement ones bolts in. I had to drill the 4 holes larger to use the bolts in the uppers. The bottoms pressed in and were very tight but I wnet slow. The car is not on the road yet but they are in.
Be very very careful pressing lower Ball Joints I pressed a set in and I'm not sure if I had the wrong size collars on the big C-clamp and fractured the metal, but 6 months after the right side lower arm broke off right past the ball joint as I was backing. I had a loose feeling for 2 months, I scearched every square inch of the right wheel and I could not figure it out, until the wheel dropped The crack started on the back side and worked its way to the center (as long as I drove foward it didnt tear any more but every time I backed up and turned the wheel hard it ripped a little more until that day when I cut the wheel hard and tore it right off Sure did ruin my weekend!
