Hi, I'm going to a B4B intake on my 455 with factory heads. Any intake gasket recommendations or gasket install tricks/ feel good ideas? I figure aluminum to steel may need some special attention in areas.
Thanks, Stage 2 iron . Sounds reassuring. Side note. What brand of headers are running there? Primary size/ collector size? After the intake is done, I need to get my 3:73 gears in, in place of the 2:56's. I put in a 200 4r OD last fall. Then I would like some headers.
I am not a fan of the factory style metal tub gaskets on any engines. I have been using TA composite intake gaskets for years. I have also used the Fel Pro 1357 Buick intake gaskets. Edelbrock and SCE also make composite gaskets. https://www.summitracing.com/search...ifold-gaskets/make/buick/engine-size/7-5l-455 When you use these style gaskets you have to use the old pan gasket trimmed to sit below the intake and keep oil away from the bottom of intake. You need to keep the oil away from the PCV valve so it does not suck oil. If the intake was running the heated exhaust crossover it also keeps the oil from coking in the heated area of the manifold. TA has directions for trimming up an old pan gasket to use as a splash shield. These gaskets seal excellent. Greg
I like the splash shield from American Machine and Performance with composite gaskets, but TA now has a shield of their own. http://automachperf.com/images/KH_intake_sheild.JPG
The TA one requires some drilling but looks easy http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1738-455
