I want to test a newly built QJ on a known good-running engine prior to storing the carb for an extended period of time. What can I run through it (gas additive?) while it's still on the running engine to eliminate gasoline deposits? Or what can I flush it out with after I remove it? Thank you in advance for your response.
The E10 gasoline will frequently leave white deposits inside the carburetor if it is allowed to evaporate out of the fuel bowl repeatedly. When winter approaches, I start running non ethanol fuel, and store the car over the winter with that fuel. Do that, or spray some gumout carb cleaner in through the vent, drain and repeat.
All I normally do is turn the carb. upside down to drain as much fuel out as possible & give it a LITTLE shake. Activate the throttle to get as much fuel out of the accelerator pump passages as possible. Then leave it out in the Sun for a day or two upsidedown . It will dry out BEFORE it sits in the carb. too long to cause a problem. I do it with ALL the carbs. I rebuild for those all over the world & so far there have been no problems I'm aware of. Tom T.
Same as Tom T. said; I pull it off and dump all the fuel out. On my boat, I disconnect the fuel line and run till it dies... never had to clean out the carbs in 20 years doing that.
