Hello everyone, My '72 skylark is in my avatar there and the top is in really good condition. However, I have seen a few products out there that claim to extend the life of convertible tops. Is there any truth to this? And if so has anyone had any experience with any of these top care products and which ones would you recommend? Also my top is white and there are a few dark spots. I would like get these out, any suggestions on what to use?
Well, I have used several products and most are a "silicone" moisturizer. Works ok, I guess. My cars are in FL and I keep them under cover while not in use, tops last about 8-10 years without heavy use. White tops last about 3 years before they start changing color. Just can not keep the white tops clean. I prefer black. You can use Wesley's White Wall wash to clean your top. Make sure you rinse any spills on your paint with fresh water. If that fails, use some diluted bleach.
My black '70 top is still going strong after 16 years with nothing more than careful washing with weak dishsoap a few times per year. Dan
