Art is simply canvas and paint, Bitcoin is imaginary numbers, classic cars are metal, plastic, and rubber, and stocks represent ownership of corporations. Yet, in many cases we value these items at astronomical levels because we perceive them to be rare, desirable, or a store of value. Some say the fair price of any item is what a willing buyer and seller set the price at. When you think about it, any item valued beyond its utilitarian use is purely emotional and psychological. Capitalism only works because of our insecurities and our desire to be validated. Why else would we need all the crap we buy. Think keeping up with the Joneses. Frankly, we care about what other people think about us and our stuff. We associate our net worth with our personal worth. A good example is the recent threads about how NOS parts have exploded in value. If you honestly examine why anyone would pay those astronomical prices for parts it is purely for personal validation reasons. Please don't tell me it is for an investment. Capitalism in its current form is one gigantic contest to show the world how your doing. Why does anyone care how someone they have never met thinks about them? This entire massive asset bubble we are in is going to end very badly. The exit door will be very small and when the dust settles historians will wonder what we all were thinking.
Have you ever thought....maybe, just maybe.....someone wants NOS parts b/c their quality typically far exceeds the "equivalent" repro part?? Something wrong with wanting correct and original parts? Price reflects rarity in many cases. You're painting everyone with the very broad brush you're wielding. That's convenient since it seems to fit your narrative and/or view but there's more to it. Bubble?? They've been around (and popped) forever. Keep some powder dry and you should be just fine.
Webster’s definition of capitalism: Definition of capitalism: an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a free market doesn’t really lineup to your perception of capitalism. Sorry… “Capitalism only works because of our insecurities and our desire to be validated. Why else would we need all the crap we buy. Think keeping up with the Joneses. Frankly, we care about what other people think about us and our stuff. We associate our net worth with our personal worth. “
A BIG AMEN! Sorry I would have used a small amen but I like people to see my amen is larger so like they realize I am better at amening than them and they will justify my existence by saying that Fritz has a bigger amen than anyone I know & then when I pray in thankfulness to God (he is bigger too) I can thank him for the blessing of many graces & mercies to say AMEN to. So AMEN.
I'll spill the beans and keep it simple. I have around 80K in my INVESTMENT of the car including the cost of finding the true every little bit of documented history. total. Was already offered twice, by two different people, 150K
It's all only worth what someone will offer to pay for it. Cash always talks, BS always walks. If nobody wants it, you can dream up all sorts of numbers in your head and claim far and wide how many millions you have and how great you are, but in the end it still isn't worth anything because no one wanted it. Simple as that. I look at all of my collections and my cars and I really don't care what they're worth, because they're for me and not for keeping up with the Joneses, most of the Joneses around here are too dense to appreciate a Buick anyway.
In the end, does it really matter? Most of us already have more money in our cars than they're worth, and we are still planning to spend more on them.
Annnd not that I neeeeeeeed to say it but just to prooooove I don’t care what anyone else thinks here is my beauty heh heh OKAY damn it......siiiiigh.....I did splurge on the sheetmetal hood!!!! Okay? I said it! Fine,I gotta go
You're talking about NEW parts that haven't been produced in 50-70 years. People are going to pay prices you can't imagine, and it's going to only go higher.
It’s OK to make sum Money on Buick NOS parts if you think there are HIGH, you should check out Chrysler, Ford and Mopar.
