I have a question. I have a set of correct GS mirrors, I'm lacking the mounting bracket and gaskets. I do plan on getting the gaskets from duane, but what about the brackets? could I grab a set off a trans am or camaro?
The newer passenger side mirrors also have convex glass and the "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear" note. Does someone know when these convex mirrors were used first? Also, can someone tell me which sport mirrors will fit on Buick B-C-E bodies from 1971 to 1976? I know they were first available in 1974 on the large cars (1976 only on the Electra) but do they interchange with the mirrors from other models?
bought 2 sets of ebay, thought the first set was wrong cuz they leaned in. second set did the same. did some ressearch went to a couple big shows looked at some original gsx's and realised that the gasket was the problem. its more of a wedge. never would have thought they would put the big wedge in there. couldnt find the gaskets in year one or any other place i looked. went to a local junk yard. lookin for something else and found two more sets of mirrors and the right gaskets. now i have three sets of extra mirrors anyone lookin? nice to find a place that repops them now.
trying to put a pic or two of my mirrors on this post hope it works. the thick side of the gasket measures 5/16 roughly. and these are original gm gaskets. i have measured these on several $100,000.00+ cars at barrett jackson in the past 3 years. thats my findings anyway. maybe this will help some one steve
Ok I got the Mirrors now I need the Gaskets for the Buick's, the ones I got were off a donor Oldsmobile and they are Close the gaskets will make the difference as per the post on the sport Mirrors by Duane, and I can't find this www.classiccarinteriors.com on the web, can somebody point me in the right direction please. Thanks Chris
I sent him a Private message no reply yet. I thought his site must be down. Don't have his number, would call if I had it Thanks Chris
Chris, I am completely out of the mirror gaskets at this time and will not have any for another 4-6 weeks. If you need to contact me you can call 610-544-6776 after 7:30 PM eastern. If you call do not leave a message but please call back until you reach me. Duane
No problem Duane I don't need it soon so when you get some put me on your list message me and I will take a set. I hope to need them by the spring time Thanks Chris
Chris, I can guarantee I won't remember this post by the time I get them in, too many things going on right now. If you want a pair my advise is to call me closer to when they are back in stock and we can write up an order. Duane
Re: Updating sport mirrors The mirrors from 1971-72 Pontiac Grand Prix are correct however. I got a pair from a '71 GP in a bone yard, and the casting numbers are identical to those in Duane's article. LINK These will still require Duane's gaskets to fit correctly on 1970-72 GS doors, as the GP gasket is different. To verify fit, I put these mirrors on my GSX using the original Buick gaskets. The Grand Prix mirrors indeed mounted at a level attitude. Jim J.
So has anyone ever figured out a way to fit any GM sport mirror on a 68-69 Skylark/GS? The angle is much different, more vertical.

1970 1981 Camaro our the same as skylark.if you have a skylark and a Camaro mirror put them on a flat surface and do measurments.i make gaskets now and sell on ebay.the wedge gaskets our .032 on one side and .009 on other.they coast a lot to have made.iam sure the people on this board will not believe me.ive sold about 20 sets.
Copeddler68, 70-81 Camaro mirrors are NOT the same. The only part that MIGHT be the same is the mirror lens house/backing. The mirror glass itself WILL be DIFFERENT after the convex "OBJECTS IN THE MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR" went into production. The pedestal stand and the body itself are NOT the same. Look at the casting numbers inside and you will see that they are DIFFERENT . Yes, they will physically fit, and you can simply flip the stock CAMARO gasket and trim off the 'locating dot' to make them work. http://www.buickperformanceclub.com/SportMirrors.htm BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
they our the same.with skylark gasket they work perfect.ive sold a lot of mirrors your wrong.fliping gasket does nothing.
OK, so you've SOLD a lot of mirrors. Still does NOT make them correct. The casting numbers on Camaro's are NOT CORRECT. Just look at the link that SEVERAL people have provided. Just trying to PREVENT somebody that does not know better from getting the WRONG MIRRORS...
