I don't personally know about that car but went back and looked at your link to the ebay auction---jeeeez---talk about bad pics!!! No wonder it didn't sell. The bigger problem is the heavy overdose of "W31" emblems on the car--talk about "no credibility" in an auction. When people post pics and descriptions of their car, etc on evilbay and these pics/descriptions contain OBVIOUS problems....and there is no explanation for them....well, the buyers run away fast. No wonder that car didn't do anything.

C'mon--ditch the hood tooth or repaint it and put the right emblem on there and at least try to paste an "Oldsmobile" script emblem on where the "one off" trunk w31 emblem is. :Dou: Patton

the seller doesnt answer his phone or return messages.

hes probably tired of being told its not a 31,but its still a neat car.

John, you need to dig out your pictures and get back to the class on this.

Of all the cars you mentioned the only cut out bumper car is mine and that is because I bolted it on in the early 80's cause I liked the look.
Prior to that Ed put the 442 bumper on from the Aqua parts car.
When you drove it you had small round chrome tips pointing straight back under the stock, non cutout, bumper.
Me thinks your memory is fading buddy.
    Another case of
"just cause you were there and saw it , doesn't mean it happened"

That black car is a very odd duck
I didn't realize you could even get a F-85 Vinyl top car but there it is
    33277 and 19 B

Although not very original, I don't see anything glaring to suggest it might not have started life as a "31"
Sure things could be added but that car doesn't really look like the type to be treated to the correct V01 top plate or the two fuel lines.
It's not like the owner was trying for 1000 point original with his theme
    Who knows.

Oh my, this is a pivotal moment in my life. The day when I must come to grips with approaching senility. I will dig out my photos and other paraphenalia to check on this, but I know that Gerry has a memory like no other. I was really thinking of phoning you before I posted my first response to this thread, but was so sure of myself that I didn't.
I will try to check my facts before offering my opinion in the future. Being so wrong in front of a large audience is very humbling.

wow, smart guy.get the car bid up to 8600,and it doesnt sell,so you raise the price so nobody bids on it.
having a power seller involved just ruined his chances.

its an actual w31,no original drivetrain,no docs, originally an auto car changed over to 4 speed with no e brake??no balancer, but has the intake.
    10K buys it.
thats what the owner told me.

this car has issues. First auction he claims it's a Cutlass F-85. well, which is it :Dou: at least we have a shot of the data plate to determine for ourselves. Now the new auction he posts better pics :beer and provides a vin. But whats with the missing F-85 fender emblems. And that looks like Cutlass S seat cover pattern. My 70 F-85 seat pattern doesn't look anything like that. I love all that red convoluted wire covering though. It may have been a W-31, but with no original drivetrain and no other way to determine what it was originally then it's probably not going to sell.

Hmmmmmmm.....very nice looking car, would take a lot to convince me it was a W31. Things like the #4 67 330 heads and 10 bolt rear (can't believe that the owner or seller here knows about 12 bolt cover/10 bolt ring gear Olds rear ends) would bother me more than the wire loom, chrome valve covers and V01 top plate bling and the obvious emblem problems. I see a paint job, bumpers and trim that would cost you more than the starting price of the auction if you were trying to do one yourself.

Still a very nice car and could be a vey nice W31 clone very easily and worth much more than this. Agree with Patton. At least he's trying and no spinner hubcaps on 20 inch wheels and major fart pipes. Probably have to really notch the rear bumper to put those pipes on there.
