Now that temps here are in the 80's and 90's, enjoying cruising with the windows down isn't a fun option. Last year drivin I-5 for 8hrs the thing worked 'fair', it kept me from roasting. heh=heh.. I went to turn it on yesterday and I got nothing but warm/hot air. So, I need a 'good and smart' place to get the system checked out, refilled, etc.. Anyone have any recomendations? Anywhere from Thousand Oaks to LA would be appreciated. And please don't say "PepBoys", the dillweeds there don't know jack.

    Thank You

If you're mechanically inclined enough to twist bolts on your engine, you can handle a little A/C work. I just topped off the R-12 system on my Riviera two days ago, it now blows out 34* air. Here's how:

    License to buy R-12 freon - http://www.epatest.com
Costs $20, I printed my temp license from the website and headed off to AutoZone to buy freon. AutoZone had the cheapest freon at $15 per 12 oz can when I stocked up last winter.

Books - AutoZone has a Haynes Tech Manual on general A/C theory and 'how to'. I also have Buick Chassis Service Manuals for both cars with specifics, such as system pressures.

Tools - http://www.acsource.com or any quality store such as NAPA, etc. Online was cheaper. Gage set and hoses was $56. Also need a thermometer to measure ambient and duct output air temps to do the job right.

All this costs less than going to Pep Boys, or other shops that hire Pep Boys rejects. To choose shops, I look at the employees cars. If the guys that work there drive classic musclecars, I figure there's a chance that they'll take good care of mine.
