I know a car is just a conglomeration of unfeeling steel and plastic parts, and is an inanimate object, but I really do believe they have a personality as a result of how those parts all work together.
I had an Invicta that required that I call it every filthy name in the book before it would start. Fail to do that and it wouldn't start. Without a dose of vitriol applied constantly, the thing would quit. The moment you even thought it could be a show car there would be red lights across the dash.
I had a Wildcat that hated Cougars, (the Mercury kind) and would actually swerve at them, it was in many cases all I could do to hold the car straight when it sensed one. When I got the car there was a huge gash in the passenger's rear quarter, - as explained by the guy I bought it off of, it was done in a freak accident with a Cougar.
My 46 Super was probably the "happiest" car I've ever owned; it was just happy to be driven and still be alive. It had a good sense of duty too. It would always make it home and then if it needed to die (because of old age or my neglect) it would always quit once it made it back to my garage.

I can wholly agree. Much like us, the cars can be the same components, but built differently. I always have sympathy and affection for old cars, especially for one that has basically been a home for me, and the closest thing to family I have. Shes a daily, and goes where I go. I like to think she has a "soul" so to speak, in her own way.

So I have a story about being a stupid kid with my newly given 72 Skylark from my mom.

So on my sisters wedding night I decided to be stupid. I got pulled over by troopers, was arrested and thrown in the back seat.

10 or so minutes later they open the door and ask how to get into the car. I told them just push the knob under the handle.

They said thats not working. I said you have to push down on the handle and push the knob at the same time.

They come back, nope not working. Ok, I say. Now what? They pulled me out of the car and unhandcuffed me. They said open the door.

I walked back over to the car and opened it easy peasy. :p

Lets just say they weren't amused. I got handcuffed and tossed back in the car. :(

I get to the police station and call my dad. I can hear him say over the phone to my mom, "your son's in jail"

Fortunately I got released on my own recognizance and got picked up by my mom. The look of death on her face was evident.

Ended up losing my licence for a month, Had max points on my licence 10 or 13 at the time I think. Cost me $500 in court fees, $500 for my lawyer, Insurance went to $4000.00 a year.

So every year on my sister's anniversary the story get brought up. :p

Thats my only story in a Buick. :(:)

My 71 GS Coupe and my 71 Stage 1 convertible were built on the same day in Flint, Michigan. They're brothers!

My black 71 GS was stolen from one of the previous owners and was involved in a high speed police chase. The woman I bought it from told me that the police were asking her what was done to the car because it outran 4 police cars before the thief wrecked it.

The car was in such bad shape when I bought it that the woman spray painted "NOT A DERELICT" on the trunk lid so no one would tow it away for scrap

    Another interesting story...

My Aquamist Stage 1 lived most of its life in Sheridan Wyoming. The previous owner who bought it in 1971 said he would always see a brown Stage 1 around town and would occasionally race him.

My Aquamist car now lives in NY. About 12-14 years ago Im at a car show on LI and what pulls into the show? A brown 70 Stage 1. Parks right next to me. As he's backing up I see the dealer tag on the trunk- "Riley Motors- Sheridan WY" !!!! Same car.

  17. BUQUICK

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

Two of our '72 Buicks were invoiced on the same day, 8/26/71 which was also the earliest date any Buick A-body was invoiced.

Also, one of those two cars was then sent to a Buick/Pontiac dealer, who didn't sell it so they traded the car to another dealer, who didn't sell it so they later traded the car to a Ford Lincoln Mercury dealer. So the car was built in August 1971 and was finally sold to the its first owner in May 1972 at a Ford dealership.

Fun fact. I bought 2 63 oldsmobile for the price of one. When loading them up the seller took a phone call. He was loud and said he got rid of the olds he got from blah blah blah. I asked, he told me was a cop and got those off a lady who her husband killed himself. One had the interior gutted and when I put the dots together I sold the cars. Wouldn't you rather have a Buick

  19. 72STAGE1

    72STAGE1 STAGE 1 & 2

I was huge into football growing up, dreamed of it, consumed by it, and then later bought my GS STAGE 1 from my childhood hero by pure coincidence. I was emailing back and forth to a classic dealer in S. Cal and I noticed his name and was floored, couldn't be 2 guys with this name. it was the 1972 Heisman Trophy winner from Penn State, John Cappelletti……. and we agreed on a price and even he met me at the Airport and I spent the better part of a Sunday with him at his Dealership...…..huge fun for me.

Once a bought a car at an auction and was driving around town like mr.cool.
At as stop sign a car with 4 gang members pulled up. Me being young and braveheart I engaged in a window 2 window conv.
They said that was there car and had something they wanted from it, and wanted to know if I knew what they were talking about... I didnt.
Being at a lonely stop sign with no one coming I quickly said "man I dont know, my dad is police and that how I got this car".
There facial expression went in 180 degrees, I drove off.
Later i tore down the car and found a large amount of crack behind the CD deck
