Just curious. Does anyone else have a clutch that sucks in reverse? My GSX with a Mcleod street strip clutch vibrates and rattles your fillings out when in reverse but only when engine is warmed up. Any ideas?

My McLeod clutch rattles your fillings out while coming out in first only. Also only when hot.

My 73 did that to me in reverse. In the forward gears it was just fine. I would take a guess that it has something to do with the finish on the pressure plate. Maybe the plate doesn't have a non-directional finish? Sometimes they cut them on a lathe which makes a finish similar to a vinyl record. The disc want to ride on those lines and chatters....maybe. It happens with disc brakes all the time if you don't put a fine cut on the rotors and back it up with some course grit paper as its still spinning to cut the lines down

I wouldn't think the flywheel and clutch disc would know what direction you are going. It probably has more to do with the multiplication ratio of the gearing and load on the disc to get moving.

Reverse is usually a steeper gear than first.

That being said, I've never had that problem, so the above is just my thoughts.

Its probably worse in reverse because you slip the clutch more when reversing. not a lot of fully engaged time unless your backing down a long driveway or something..

I experimented some more and if I give it more gas it lessens but is still there.

Well that confirms my thinking. I always knew engines run in reverse direction when the car is in reverse gear. Time travel to the land of dinosaurs is also possible.

Im not saying the engine spins in reverse! Im just thinking that its more pronounced in reverse because your slipping the clutch more. Brake pads chatter for the same reason

NOW THAT IS ONE STRANGE BIRD!

Now back to the clucth chatter. How about checking all motor mounts and transmission mount, maybe she is dancing around when the torque direction is reversed. Maybe need to inspect rear suspension and mounting also. Just some thoughts that no one has mentioned yet. Might consider checking crankshaft end play also.
