You thinking to smooth the transition into the SP3.
Might blend the a/f mix better.

I'm thinking there is no imagination here:p

That might help with fuel flo. I don't have Qjet up to one of these experts to do it.

I was looking to see if you could change the squirters looks like there is nothing out there for it. Must not be able to change those.

Cliff recommends at least a 1" spacer under Qjet sitting on a SP intake, and no drop base air cleaners.

Yeah, good luck closing the hood:D:D

The hood barely shuts with the stock air cleaner on with no spacers. It easily clears with aftermarket air cleaners. The snorkels (with no foams) hit the plates before anything else.

I made my own drop base. Cut out the center and welded in a 1/2" ring. Hood clears now but no room for a spacer. I just need to get it powder coated.

only the Corvette drop base worked good, other types of drop base air cleaners took power away from motor.

The SP3 has a 1 inch higher pad than the TA DP intake. I add the 1 inch nitrous plate and that is about all you can put in if you have a drop base and a 4 inch air cleaner.

you know if you use the stock hood scoops to bring in air it sucks air our at high speed

Im on the fence about that theory, I do understand its not "Ram Air" 'course Buick never advertised it as such, its "Cool Air Induction"
Its better than hot under hood air I suppose, plus the hood scoops and the air cleaner assy. looks cool:cool:

Remember you have to raise the lid also, otherwise the lid will be awfully close to the top of the carb:eek:
Your effectively lowering the whole air cleaner assy. and unless you compensate by raising the lid, your going to choke off the air flow.

Just for show not for go! It will look period correct for the most part but with cut down foams.

Understood. The whole point is to close the hood. Lower the base and raise the lid back up, same problem. lose all the clearance. The one I welded together is just for shows. Sometimes I get these crazy ideas and I have to see if I can make it happen lol. The factory AC is sweet looking and helps set our cars apart from every other car, under the hood.

Mart uses the corvette drop base and 3.5" element. Maybe it could get better air flow but seat of the pants doesn't feel like its starving to me!

As far as I know, nobody has ever tested a stock setup with a 1/2" drop. It still uses the factory form and flow for the most part. I tried to keep it as minimal as possible and still fit.

Also 1-5/8" higher than a stock iron manifold which is what I swapped out. That's a lot of lost clearance :D

    On top of......
    a 1" tapered spacer.:)
Just fits. I can fit a 4" element on this setup but it's abt 3/16" from the underside of hood.

Take your high beams out and run duct hose, preferably smooth, to the dual snorkles.....:D

You guys are worried abt air cleaners. Im more interested in robbing some h.p. to run a/c. It's hot outside. Your rear end sticks to these pleather seats.:D

What is this a/c you speak of? My car doesn't even have a heater!

All that extra hose, fluid and heater core just slows you down! :D

Mart, you just reminded me about my '67 Electra back in the day...optioned out the wazoo including automatic climate control. I used to remember how that whole system worked!

A/C at full blast in the staging lanes, even while staging! As soon as the throttle whammed open, manifold vac went to zero and the compressor disengaged all by design. Off throttle after the traps = glorious cold A/C again!

Ahh, that was a fun car.

Having to roll your window up at the track in this heat is not cool.
