    Hi all!!
I just finished firing up my newly rebuilt 455 Runs great EXCEPT!! something is rubbing on the oil pan!!!! What a pain now I'll have to pull the motor and pop off the oil pan and see what going on!!! When its running I put my hand on the oil pan and I can feel it. ( near the front) Anyone else have this problem? I spun it over by hand when it was on the stand and didn't hear-feel it then. I used ARP rod bolts if that rings any bells
    Thanks Brad

    455 regal,glad you got R running :TU:
It does not take much to ding the front of the oil pan to make it rub on the crank. It happened to us at the "04" BPG nats. What a PIA :Dou:
ARP bolts are not an issue.

there's nothing quite like a big block buick in a regal :)
I always have fun in mine, now that I have acquired a good used set of ET streets, I can see what it will do :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Its a funny occurance to have a crank hit an oil pan if you know exactly what is going on. Here is some redneck engineering......I had this happen to me on a 350 my cousin HOSS and I shotgunned into a 67 special. We welded a bolt to the bottom of the pan and drilled a hole into the center of a metal rod, bolted it to the pan and pulled it down. The car has changed owners twice now and still has the bolt welded to the pan.......

That happened to me when I dropped the 455 in the 85 Regal. I just layed under the car and pushed together on the sides of the oil pan (while it was running) until the tap went away. Yeah! Brute strength wins!
    Good luck and congrats.

John, you crack me up. My family is doing great. They still ask when we can take another trip to PA! I didn't think it was THAT fun of a drive. Oh, well.

By the way, did you see Ortiz vs. Shamrock last night on Spike TV?
Okay now back to the regularly scheduled thread...

    Motor out! found the problem!

Well it was just as I thought. I found a little rub mark when I took off the pan. And on the edje of the rod bolt. I could see the dend before I had the pan off but I figured I've come this far I might as well have a look. I hammered out the dent put the pan on with no gasket and I'll roll it over to make sure it doesn't hit. New gaskets are ordered.
What do you all think of this? When I had the pan off I found a few aluminum slivers ( magnet didn't stick) in the oil must be from the timing cover very small but they were there? Is this normal on a new rebuild? I used new high volume gears ( oil pump) and the steel plate and shims to get clearances.Oh also a adjustable oil pressure screw. Anybody else "been there" ? :Do No:

Iracie taxie pedals but it was worth it!!! Looks great!!! I haven't had it out on the road yet ( car needs brake lines re assembled )

I bet if you hit a quality body shop, they have a spot weld slide hammer machine that pulls dents, it spot welds the tip to metal, they can wack it with the slide hammer, the hit the juice again and unweld it, sure would beat the heck out of going through all that effort of pulling the motor, eeek.

I'm working on an 86' regal V8 conversion. Nothing beats a free Arizona Rust Free Car that I can turn into a Gran National Clone, a car I always wanted.

It's starting to come together well, the only dent was in drivers fender, I can't believe this car was never built, and they put that shameful Olds 307 POS in this great body. They never should have stopped making the SBB & BBB, it was made for this car.

The pretty Green GS on my Avatar is the Donor, it's now recieving a Big Block.
