borrowed a friends new edelbrock performer rpm for a 440 yesterday to eyeball basic angles etc - man that is close - ports won't match up exactly but a quick angle cut on the intake and that would drop in there awful close i'd say . may be a little too close - not alot of adapter "meat" to work with . lookin' pretty though . hate to cut up an expensive intake but ------ . and that would involve a little more motor to utilize the idea . del

440 does not work. good only for 455.

been there, done that, last year

gs : would it possibly work if you could line up ports without messing with the integrity / shape of the runners ? del

the 383 is big and the 440 is bigger. too much slicing and dicing to make it effective

I think the ultimate manifold for most of our Buicks would be this:

In 2002, Car Craft magazine ran the 6 Big Blocks equally prepaired and the winner was Buick with 555 HP. The 440 was less HP but had the same HP per cubic inch and beat the Buick in a 1/4 mile computer race.
The Buick had it's best ET with a Performer intake.
The Buick had best HP with a TA intake but slower ET.
The Mopar had massive low end torque AND upper end Hp with an Edelbrock RPM intake.

We need a 440 Edelbrock RPM port design adapted to B4B/performer and no more than 1/2" taller than a B4B so we can close our hoods with stock air cleaners.

Study the Car Craft articles closely and you will come to the same conclusion.

had a 440 and 383 intake. you much machining to TRY to make it work. you will still need adapter plates. i can do and already done and proved the sbm. AND if you go to the sbc, you'll go broke on adapter plate stock prices.

i have posted most of this info on the bpg site. 'our little 350'

If Edelbrock would put the R & D work into a Buick manifold like they did the Mopar manifold , they could, or someone could, design a dual plane that would provide power up to 550+ hp and out ET any Single plane while allowing us to use a stock hood.
This could be done for SBB and BBB.

    hey Wes,
How did you learn so much on bpg web site when I keep seeing: "THERE AIN'T BEEN NO BODY HERE IN 30 DAYS".

ordered in mopar part # p5249189 - b>rb adapters - about 13/16 inch thick , no bevel . really close for sbm intake . sbm intake just sinks in a little toooo much . they list thick ( .030 - .045 - .060 ) std and big port 440 intake gaskets but i'm not sure it would still be enough . if adapters were about 1/8 inch thicker ---- and they would have to be beveled a little also which would drop them in a little further . also gonna be talkin to my flathead guy soon - retired and just back from florida for summer - he used to run modified flatheads in local nostalgia dirt class - he had a usa contact that ordered him a custom made flathead tunnel ram base from a place in australia . he still has the intake and i want to check that out and see if he still has contact info for those people . del

  20. fourfiftyfive

fourfiftyfive My car is a mess........

I'm gonna go ahead and add that I too would be interested in a 350 SP1 intake and aluminum heads. Sure, my display name is "fourfiftyfive", I have 2 of those, but I also have a homeless buick 350... and once my '69 skylark is "finished", I'll be looking for another, older, car to drop my 350 in, with some goodies of course... so even a guy like me who is commonly heard says things like "go big or go home" is interested in the SBB... hey, 350 cubes and serious potential IS big after all isn't it?

Go SBB movement! The more attention and respect our buicks get, the happier we'll be!

    :3gears: :beers2:
