View attachment 233246 I wasn't sure where to post this.......is there anyone on here that has experience with Mercruiser sterndrives? I had a water pump impeller go bad last week in the lower unit, and while I was putting it back together a plate with holes (baffle?) fell out of the stern drive assembly and for the life of me I can't figure out where it goes. I looked at the diagrams in my manual but I couldn't find it. It is shaped like a D and has 5 holes about 1/4" in diam. It looks to have carbon build up on one side from being exposed to the exhaust fumes. Any help would be appreciated. Its a 1988 model, 3.0L alpha one (gen 1). See attached photo. Thanks Steve
Looks like the exhaust shutter to me. It allows the exhaust to flow out and blocks lake water from flowing into the engine.
