All Purdied Up

    Thanks again to Jim at New Image Coatings in Struthers Ohio,for Jet-Hot treatment of my SP2 intake. I wanted to coat the intake that I am going to use,but it has epoxy in it,so it’s not worth the chance. I guess I’ll have to polish that one.

    That looks really nice. I have never seen someone do that to an intake before.

    Brian, is that the same process as powder or ceramic coating?When I pull my engine I'm having my shorty headers ceramic coated for the new build and I thought about having my aluminum intake and timing cover done so that they don't get all grimy and discolored.

    It’s the same type of material that Jet-Hot is. Some sort of ceramic. I have them do all of my headers. They actually cap the collectors,fill the tubes,then drain,so you get a thorough coating inside AND out,instead of just sticking a nozzle in there and spraying what you can reach at each end. They do something similar with the intake,so the whole thing is coated. I always liked a raw aluminum intake,to dissipate heat,but I have found this to run even cooler,which is due in part to the bottom being coated,and doesn’t let the heat penetrate like a raw intake would. I really want to do my other intake,but I don’t want to disturb the epoxy. I can still coat the bottom plate since it is removable.

    Jet Hot does work I got my headers done a long time go and there are now some rust spots on them where the coating had come off.

    So one day I was using a heat gun to see how hot each header pipe was and this is where I found out that anywhere their was the coating the temp was lower than the areas where their was rust and no coating.

    This was like 40* at least, so I know the Jet Hot does keep things cooler under the hood.

    It really comes down to how it was applied. If you can thoroughly coat the inside of the header tube,which most places do NOT,you can start to see some improvement. It also holds up well against some of the fuels we are running. I’ve seen some nice headers rotted out from that.
