I'm procrastinating going out to the garage to work on my car. I turn on Motor Trend tv just as these two idiot girls are removing the front control arms from a early 70's Monte Carlo. They first comment that this isn't like any Toyota that they have worked on. The next scene shows the car all the way up in the air with upper and lower ball joint nuts removed. She uses a hammer to separate knuckle from the ball joints. After the knuckle is removed, I see that the only thing holding the front spring in is the shock! There's no jack stand under the lower arm. If somebody that watches this show and doesn't know how unsafe this is tries to do this in their garage, they could be killed. In the next scene, she flips the upper arm up and uses an impact to spin out the pressed in upper control mounting studs! I pity the poor mechanic that has to align this. They never show how it was put back together, they just show it done. Absolutely no mention of any alignment shims that had to have fallen out. They then show them driving to the alignment shop. Is Motor Trend responsible if someone follows their procedure and gets injured or killed?

These "reality" shows are so unrealistic, and really do a disservice to those that work in the restoration industry. Not only for the ridiculously compressed time frames ("The customer is coming to pick the car up tomorrow, we need to get it in the paint booth tonight") but the unrealistic costs that they throw out to do work. I love to watch most of them, but you have to do so with the knowledge that things are not as they seem.

I noticed this this morning also. There I was yelling at the TV! I don't take any of these shows seriously. But the shock holding the spring was a new procedure for me

Every time someone grabs a wrench it’s deafening guitars and tattoos. Never mind if they light a torch, then it a full concert. Just there to “sell soap “.

That's because none of this is done in real time. Sections are recorded, and then edited together to make it look like it's all one piece. Kinda like the Bullitt chase scene where they pass the same cars multiple times, or the Dodge looses seven hub caps.
Just another "reality" show - manufactured drama.

Fantom Works shows the "original" 72 GS 8.5 rear that came out of the car on the shop floor and it has leaf springs still attcahed and 4 lugs on the drums.
Not to mention the 70 Chevelle SS 396 that was in for a change of paint color but magicley became a 70 LS6 with cowl induction at end of the episode.

My TTA was on All Girls Garage in 2019. At that point in time, most of the girls were ASE certified. I had along conversation with the producer of the show and he really knew his stuff. I haven't watched that show in a while, it must have gone downhill. They don't do everything real time, but, once they get rolling they record an entire show in 22 muinutes, I never saw them have to reshoot a scene. I go a lot of free parts out of the deal.

I've given up on them. Too much fake drama, impossible deadlines. And on some shows, too many corners being cut. At least the All Girl Garage (I assume!) doesn't insist on a goatee on everyone.

I cannot stand the stupid concerned look on his face and the dramatic music when Dan from FantomWorks fines a rusted brake line on a 60 YEAR OLD car!
He fixes everything on a car "by his words" and then takes it for a drive and then finds out the drum is out of round and needs to be re surfaced. He is "stumped" also by that..

The show Wheelers and Dealers I did like before they changed the mechanic to Ant..
Nothing against Ant I just liked Edd better..

My son works at a custom hot rod shop and they get people in there every day thinking everything is so easy and shouldn't take long. Watched too many TV shows.....
