Looking for a 1.25" (1 1/14") four barrel air cleaner riser where the choke linkage doesn't bind up against it. For some reason every air cleaner riser I try is so damn tight around the flange and the choke linkage is touching rendering it useless. It doesn't have to be, there is like half an inch of latitude for diameter I don't understand why they have to be so small.
I've tried so many different risers at this point. They all have this problem. The inside diameter is always 5" when it should be a minimum of 5 1/8". At this point I'll pay someone to make me one out of wood or something or 3d print one the right dimensions. Anyone?
I have a pile of risers from various GM vehicles. They all seemed to stick with the Quadrajet? diameter, even if they weren't from a carbed vehicle. PM if interested.
Why would that matter? I'm pretty sure most if not all standard 4 barrel carbs have a 5 1/8" flange. The problem is risers consistently fall short of that diameter.
This one specifically says fits 5 1/8 flange. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/spectre-air-cleaner-riser-kit-4954/22905318-P
I have that one, it was the first one I bought. It is not. It had to be stretched to even fit over the entire flange. Once on the choke linkage is blocked because of too tight a tolerance.
So I measured the plastic risers, they are indeed 5 1/8. Problem is the choke linkage sticks out further than that. The open element cleaner I have comes with a built-in riser piece that is 5 1/4" wide. That is the diameter riser I'll be needing then, as I have no problems with that cleaner. I can't be the first person to run into this. Nobody ever tries to put stock style air cleaners on aftermarket carbs?
Sent you a PM. Have access to some aftermarket Risers in my friends shop. Should be there this weekend. The TBI ones I checked, all were 5 inch inside diameter, as you stated.
So I decided to just design a spacer with the correct dimensions and have it printed in polycarbonate. Works perfect
Good that you had the ability to do that. Great. Friend had these, but they were 1” and 2” height respectively. They were closer to 5 1/8” inside diameter.
