I'm just adding to the rear end code lore of yesteryear. I've gleaned a lot of useful information from these forums and I just wanted to share information found on my rear end. 1970 Stage 1 Muncie close ratio 4-speed non-a/c 3.64 gears Axle code appears to be "NO" with an added "D 328" That was on the left/driver axle tube. The front left/driver side of the differential housing has a code "K 4 0" ... the third digit looks like a zero of some sort with a diagonal slash. On the front right/passenger side there is another differential code on two lines as follows: 1385724-F 4 I have seen some members post/comment about the numbers you can see in the third photo below, on the back (cover side), left/driver side of the housing. I once thought that was some code, especially since I originally misread the numbers. Now that I have the rear end out and a little cleaner, those numbers that are on two lines as follows: 12345 67890 I know there are decoder experts out there who may want to comment and educate interested members. I pulled the cover and counted the gear teeth: Ring - 41 Pinion - 10 That makes it a 3.64, as expected. Enjoy! Steve
The NO or ON is correct. My guess is the “D” is not what they wanted. The 328 is the 328th days of the year,which would be the 328th day of 1969 for that rear. I just recently rebuilt this one. They just kept doing it.
