AC compressor identification- what is this from?

    so this AC compressor was in the trunk of my 70 GS454 when I bought it in 2001. It’s been in a box until now. The car has a Frankenstein of a front end. Who knows what the previous owner did.

    What is it? From what car?
    Is it from a 70 GS?
    Is it worth sending out to get refurbished?

    From what I understand, what you have is a Frigidaire A6 refrigerant compressor, used on most all GM vehicles from ~1962 through 1978, and also used on many 70's Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles. They were also used on many non-automotive applications well into the 1990's. A very robust, high capacity & reliable unit - also quite common.

    That system does not look like it came from a 71/72 GS. It looks like an A6 (standard GM compressor), but the hoses and other stuff all look different what I've seen. The muffler doesn't look like the ones that I've seen on the 70-72 Skylarks. Below is the 70-72 evaporator hose and muffler. The A6s were pretty much all the same, but came with different pulley sizes, based on the rear differential gear ratio.

    Yeah, I notice the tubes looked different, but figured that you could bolt a different hose to it. The number 6550133 on the label is coming up as 66-67 years GM (chevelle, Camino, Camaro, etc). The other number 6555302 comes back all over the place for GM cars. Guess I need to measure the pulley to see if it matches 70-72 GS.

    Do you know correct diameter of the pulley for GS?

    Thanks...Looks like the smaller pulley is 5”, and larger roughly 5 5/8” for bigger gears like Stage 1 option. I'll have to see what my pulley part number is, if it has one.

    Question is, do I rebuild this one if it's appropriate? Or get one already re-manufactured from like TPP or somewhere else?
