    Steve,

My friend recommended you for a set of custom valve covers. I don't have a specific design in mind, but I thought I'd ask if you had any pics of past projects. He said you were absolutely top notch. He never got around to ordering anything, and now sold the car to me. I'd just as soon work with somebody local. No rush. Figured I'd ask now in case it would take several months before you could complete any new requests.

I was wondering how you built the cage? Inside or partly outside then finnished inside the car? It looks really good, the gussets are my favorite part and the overall design onf the cage looks really strong. Good work!

I would be happy to discuss any project that you need help with. The valve covers that I build now are in the pictures below. (sorry not the best of pictures). I am designing and building a new style, where the sides are wider, (flush with the outside of the base), and I will be building them in two different heights. (one for standard roller rockers and a taller version for the Jesel setup). I don't have any pictures of the new style right now. I sent the protoype out for evaluation and should be hearing back from them next week. I also build oil pans, oil systems and MANY other Buick items that I really don't advertise. Give me a call and we can discuss your project! PS - Great to see another Buick nut in the local area!!!

    Doug -
I built the car around an old set of 14x32's. I plan on running that size most of the time. BUT, I narrowed the rear end so that I can run a 10" or 10.5" tire on a standard off the shelf rim, (no custom back spacing). This gives me the option to remove the chute and wheelie bars and run the 10.5 tire combo and appear less like a race car. I'm not sure if I will ever actually do that, but it didn't cost me anything to build it this way. I guess I thought it might be fun at some of my local tracks to click off a low 9 while appearing only fairly modified from the stands! (dreamer hey?)

I built the cage in the car. It's not that easy, especialy for an old fart like me. I cant bend around everything when welding like I once could!! I left the body loose for some of the build, then raised the body as high as I could to weld the tops of the cage and where the cage meets the frame. Otherwise it becomes nearly immposible to weld 360 deg. around all of the tubes.
Another well respected board member asked me if the knee bar would hit my knees in the event of a crash. I'm happy to say after a second evaluation I dont think they would, BUT I am going to move it anyway, just to be safe. My first and foremost goal above all else with this car is safety!

Thanks again everyone for the input and comments. I DO APPRECIATE IT!!

I'l post some pictures when I get the first set ready to ship. It might be a few weeks. PLEASE remind me if you don't see any pictures. Better yet, call me and put a bug in my ear! I constantly have too many projects going on and it comes down to the noisiest wheel getting the grease!
    Thanks, Steve

    Valve covers

Kevin (and others that asked), here are a few pictures of the new style valve covers. These are the tall version to clear the Jesel style rocker set up. They sell for the same as the other style. ($315/pr) I have both styles pictured for a comparison. Both styles have a 1/4" thick base, not a sheet metal base.

Also as you can see that over the holidays I had a few days to spend on the race car (while waiting for aluminum material to arrive) and I built the headers. This summer looks doughtfull as far as taking the car down the track. WAY TOO many customers to take care of first! I will continue to work on it when I can.
