I have a 96 Roadmaster with trailer towing package, but I am new to towing and don't know if there is wiring for trailer and/or brake controller or where to look. I called up two Buick dealers and both were clueless.
I bought an 18' landscape trailer that can tow a car - also picked up a class iii draw-tite hitch and weight distributing hitch for the trailer. Just need info. on wiring hook-up to get the trailer inspected. Thanks!

You are going to have to set both the lights and brake setup yourself, i.e., nothing is stock from the factory. For the brake wiring I spliced mine into the drivers' side taillight setup so when not in use I can stow it in the rear locked compartment.

If you're unsure of doing any of this I'd go to a good trailer/camper location and they should be able to set up both systems for you.

Also, before towing I would seriously consider having your tranny fluid and filter changed and adding AS BIG of a trans cooler as you can. The stock one is inadequate for doing the job you will ask of it. The tranny's are one of the weak links with this car but if you take care of it now you should be OK.

Also visit www.impalassforum.com - its like V8 buicks but for the B-body cars... they have a wagon section you can find here

Thanks Alan. Sounds like good advice. Do you pull a car with your Roadmonster?

    ...always glad to help.

I haven't pulled my car yet but I've pulled a pretty big U-Hail trailer back from BG to Long Island loaded with a ton of crap a few of us bought and I towed a really heavy 1971 18' fibergalss boat quite a few times.

One other thing .... the rear air-suspension. Its an air shock setup and they are known to develop leaks. The compressor is in/around the front left bumper area and if you hear it cycling often it because the shocks are leaking.

For towing a car I would consider replacing the air shocks witha good set of heavy duty monroe's and put some air bags in the springs - basically disconnecting the air-shock setup. There is a way to mod the compressor and height adjustor to work with the airbags but its a bit involved - it is detailed somewhere on impalassforum.

....the last thing you want to do is blow out your air shocks with 5K sitting on the tongue doing 65 mph on the interstate
