Any one use the 870 Holley street avenger carb with the 1' trick Flow Phenolic spacer?
When my motor was dynoed post build it was run with the QJ (rebuilt specifically for this motor) that is on the car now and an out of the box Holley 870 street avenger carb with spacer and result was 24 more Hp and few more lbs of trq. I have a 1' spacer and would be mounted on a B4B. looks like you can pick up a 870 SA Holley for pretty reasonable price.

Other option and AED? pretty pricey

    Thoughts?

PS: not worried about fuel economy its a weekend street car

Hi Kick, I like my 870 S.A. so far. Racers have told me however, it may bog off the line and the double pumpers do not seem to bog. I got it real cheap from Atlantic speed shop. I have a Holly tuning dvd, and a how to rebuild your front end video you can borrow anytime. Jim

Thanks Jim. Do you use a spacer? I have only mainly ever had Q-jets. Had and edelbraock but was on a Cheby. I did see those 870's cheaper at Atlantic as well. I may take you up on the DVD at some point. i want to rebuild the front end on mine next winter.

I do not have a spacer, but maby I will try one if my hood will give me the clearence. I have the B4B. manifold, and the Holly mates up well to it. I also have a Q-jet and a Thermo- Quad, but the Holly seems to work nice, so I plan on running it. I love the price of the S.A.870. In the future, I would like to try a big double pumper.

I have the S.A. 870 on my car also. I have had great results. I just switched to a Stage 2 style hood, so clearance is not a problem. I'll have to try a spacer. Do you have any HP/TQ numbers for spacer/no spacer w/870 Holley S.A.?

The increase results for HP and trq were with the 870 SA out of the box with a spacer. I think it was run just with spacer whicj neted 24 more HP! It was reccomended to get the 1' Phanolic Trick flow spacer which I have now. I will certainly have to go with a thinner air cleaner assembly to fit under my GS hood.

Kick71, short story, 3 years ago after a buddy of mine here in michigan had a reputable buick builder do his motor, and after getting the motor back flipped over in the crate with a busted QJ carb. They then sent him a 870 holley Avenger for his trouble. He then proceeded to use the fixed QJ carb. which they dynoed for him at 380hp @ 4800rpm on the 455 motor (be for it was shipped) back.

He was not happy with the combo and had me look over the paper work. The cam was way to big for the 8.8-1 comp. and the stage-1 valves were sunk in past the chamber floors. Thats why it ran like it had 300hp.

After buying a custom Scotty Brown cam, ( thanks Bob Makley), heavy porting, unshrouding valves, cutting heads, 9.4-1 comp, perfomer intake, 1in. spacer, 870 AV holley out of the box, 3in. drop base air cleaner, 3000 B&M converter, 3:73 10-bolt, this car absolutely screams like a (70 stage 1) car should. one happy camper!! PS: the carb has a slight hesitation tipping into the back barrels at quick petal to the metal roll, could fix with different vacuum spring, sorry for the long-short story. :TU:

For a while Kenne-Bell had a kit to put a 400/430/455 into that body. There was a guy at BG that had one with a 455 in it. Ran 151 as I remember. I dont know who it was though.
