Ok next update, I am really pissed. Could not install the starter unless I took almost every bolt out of the header to get the starter back in there. After getting the starter in there and bolting the header back in ther the header is almost touching the starter like .005 clearance. I know a mini starter would be better in this situation but these headers are for this car with a 307 olds motor. Flowtech/Holley needs to re list this header as it won/t fit. I will call them next weak because they don't have an email to tell them what happened for Flowtech headers and maybe I will get a new job of making headers that work for this car. All I do is fabricate because I buy something that is suppose to fit. And they are making money!
Here it shows how close the header is to the starter and how much room there is on the other side. The raised portion of the mounting surface of the header was cut on an angle so I'm thinking about grinding that off which should make the header swing back towards the frame more.
Yeah,Its hard to tell from the pic,but if you could change the angle of the mounting surface where the headers mount to the heads, you should be able to swing that header away from the starter. You might have to get the welder out again,to make the bottom thicker to have enough material to remove to change the angle enough to push the bottom out, access to a Bridgeport,or some sort of milling machine would probably make it a lot easier.GL Derek
I bought a portapower from the freight! Don't buy Flowtech headers for an 86 Buick with a 307 engine. I have been working on this for two weeks. Here is the latest of bending the left header and it's still not enough.
These Flowtech headers suck for this application. Don't buy them. I don't know which ones work but these don't Trying to bend these into shape.
I'm putting exaust on it and I have 1 flowmaster I think it's a 40 series it's 131/4" long and 91/2" wide. Who makes a cheaper muffler with the same internal design?
I think thrush has a welded type muffler I think their muffler is more like a 50 series but for about 35 from autozone
I have a buddy with an '87 Olds Cutlass with the 307 and headers, dont remember which type, but he had a big ass-ache fitting 'em, they fit like ****, plus he put a 3" Flowmaster exhaust (that fits like ****) on it. It sounds like it has 500 hp, but........................
Well that's an 800 quad and I got the timing jacked up a bit and vacuum advance on manifold vac. I also took those egr tubes out of the intake and try to smooth those round casting marks as much as could get to.
Had to notch the crossmember on the left side and I have the Thrush Welded on that side and the Flowmaster on the other side. Still need to run some pipes close to the side of the car in front of the tires but it sounds pretty good right now.
Now I think I will try to fit these fiberglass bumper fillers to my Regal. They have places to drill but I think I have to pull the bumper forward to get them in there and line them up to make sure these bosses are the correct place to drill the holes.
