    Hello,

My grandfather left me his stock 74 apollo when he passed away the only mod persay he had it painted orange.. He built cars his whole life worked at a chrome plant in michigan all his life. Anyways he left this apollo to me with 62k miles on it... I threw tires brakes and a radiator on it to get it road able.... However it sat for a few years and i think the seals dried up... Its fun to drive but the motors all oily allthough she doesnt drip. Anyway i was going to rebuild this 150hp 350cid motor and do a full rebuild with gaskets, pistons, headers ,seals, intake, cam chain, starter, alt, waterpump and carb and intake but a little 1969 gto 400 motor just landed in my garage for free! So this will be going in it now receiving the treatments i was going to give my motor.... The gto motor had a manual transmission so my first question is will my apollo th350 trans bolt up to the 400? Im hoping yes since there both in the bop family....

Any other info or things i should know will be great snd ill be rebuilding the buick 350 motor still but just to sell as fresh...

My exterior plans are to make the front end look like a nova more... I hate the apollo grill and bumpers... Is it possible to bolt up a novs front end since its an xbody? If not ill have to hack n chop it to fit.

    thanks guys

    Hey there,

Do not bother rebuilding the 350 just to sell it as "fresh" the 350s are not worth much even fresh. Look to get $50-$150 for the 350 as it sits, you would likely never get your money out of rebuilding it and selling it.

Do a search on here for "455 swap 74" as all the info will apply to the 400 swap both being big blocks... The main things are finding engine mounts and frame pads, new rad shroud (I suggest just going elect. fan), heavier front springs, and thats about it. You can bolt the 400 right up to the th350, no problem there.

Well, congrats on your new Buick. But I'm sorry to hear you want to give it a Pontiac heart and a Chev front end. At least it will still be on the road.

Sorry could this thread be relocated? Also other than brand loyalty how would it be adventagous to go from the gto 400 i beleive its ratted at 350hp/450trq.... Isnt this similar numbers to the bbb 455?

Moved to the X bodies forum.

The BBB ballpark is rated 370hp/500tq. Varies by engine year and build, of course. A plus of going BBB is that you will have TONS of help and advice from our membership with your swap. Putting in a Pontiac.. you'll likely want to go to one of their forums for engine help. And they'll probably ask why ya putting it in a BUICK?

    I'm with Larry,sell the Pontiac motor & get a BBB.Or build the 350 to 1970 "SP" specs...315HP.
Both Pontiac & Buick guys will stare sideways at you if it's a mutt.:puzzled:
But it's your car,do what you want!

This is V8Buick.com. I think most Buick guys feel the heart of a Buick is the engine. That's just the way it is. You absolutely have the right to do anything you want with YOUR car, but you are coming on to a Buick site (and a really good one), and are asking us to help you do something most of us would not do. Having said that, I'm sure someone will help you. We have a great bunch of guys here.

so i suppose my next question is can i get my sbb 350 into a 300ish hp motor for similar costs?
