I'm looking to increase Horsepower and traction in my otherwise stock 73 Rivi but I can't find any trace of 9 3/8 buick posi. I would prefer a 3.23 Buick Posi but any Buick Posi that fits in my rear end will do
Your post doesn't say where you are located but I see its your first post . Welcome . That being said I have a complete open 3.23 rear and the Posi guts out of a 2.93 rear that could be combined to make a 3.23 Posi rear in NE PA . All were from a 73 Riv.
Here in ri is a 71 riviera rear, 293 I believe. 3rd gen rivs used a one of a kind rear. Very hard to find. The axle housing needs to be sandblasted, but the internals are immaculate. Bused to be mine. The guy who has it wants to sell it. 56,000 mile car. He also bought from me the matching no th400 and 455 all from the 56,000 mi car.
The OP appears to be in Illinois. As I understand the gear gurus in the gear forum, the Buick stand alone 9 3/8” gear sets ended with the 70 model year. Starting with the 71 model year, a separate and different 9 3/8” was used by Buick that is shared with Olds and Pontiacs. I think they say it originated as an Olds rear and its design was borrowed by Buick. Check with Brian or Jim to confirm this information.
Is that possible? I didn't know that you could splice two different differentials to make one. Also I'm in Illinois
The Ring and Pinion from the 3.23 gets installed on the 2.93 Posi unit and installed in the 3.23 open housing . Posi and Open housings are the same Ring and Pinion are the same and fit either open or Posi units .
