I am planning to install a dual exhaust system to replace the stock single exhaust. I intend to go with the Dynomax 17749, offset/offset, or 17748, center/ offset. Does anyone know the proper application for the 1973 Century, as most posters using the 17749 drive earlier models. The muffler on the car currently has a offset inlet (offset towards the driveshaft) and a central outlet. Apparently the Dynomax 17748, although listed as having a centered inlet, is reversible according to the Dynomax site, so could be used as offset inlet centered exhaust? Just want to make sure it is the correct fit before ordering. Thanks.

HI there please post pics of the car. I sold a 73 Century a long time back and wondering if this is the car. Sold it in Nanaimo in the 90s.

I would not worry too much about the muffler number I would take the car to a good shop and they will sort it out for you... I do lots of my own work but normally hire out my exhaust systems... A good guy with the right tools can do it QUICK... I can pass you on a name and number if you want I know a guy doing good exhaust in the Nanaimo area. What you really need to look into is a dual hump cross-member as most of those cars came with a single exhaust cross-member.

You may recognize the location of this video. Also another 73 Century I had but this one went to scrap due to rusted roof.

Thanks, Sean. The car in question is a 25000 mile near mint survivor I picked up in Victoria from the second owner a few weeks back, so would be a different car. It's the only one that I have seen around here or at shows on the island. Would appreciate the name of the exhaust installer you mentioned.

On my 73 Stage1 car, I used the 17748 offset in, center outs... works fine, fits great but had to massage the tailpipes quite a bit. Definitely a job for a qualified muffler shop, there arent great off the shelf tailpipe options for 73-77 cars.

Thanks for in info. There is a guy in town who does custom exhaust work on old cars from a shop at his home. He comes highly recommended by others in my car club, so think he could handle the job. It does look like a tight fit to get the rear pipes fitted properly between the frame and the quarter panel. At least that's where my stock tail pipe on the single exhaust is located.

I live in Camrose Alberta Just outside of Edmonton. I've read everything i can find on the car however almost all the info is on the grand sports. and most of that info came from on this site from Eric B The paper trial thread and bits of articles on line. According to Eric B's research the only made 99 NON GS Centurys with a 455 and he said they all came with a T code but mine Has the U code. IMG_2188.JPG
I to Have of course been working on my car people IMG_2554.JPG at the shows love the seats i put in.

Oh yes I saw that one for sale a while back. I’m in Edmonton. If you look under the gas tank you may find the build sheet. That would show all the option codes. Does your car have a TH-350 trans or Th-400? Maybe someone swapped in the 455.

About the only part of the car that hasn't had any work done to is the gas tank. And yes this car is a factory 455 car ill get my camera up there and see if i can see a paper on top of the tank. before i drop the tank to look.

Very cool it’s a nice car! They sure ride nice eh? 120 mph feels smooth! I’ve had 5 of these cars over the years, lots of fun! I should trailer my Skylark down one summer for the shows in Calgary. Only pic I have handy
