Hey guys. I’m thinking of doing a cam, intake, carb, headers and exhaust on my 1973 Boat tail Rivvy. Just looking to wake up the old girl and maybe keep up with my buddies but still have a reliable car until this motor calls it quits. Any advice on combos that work well or a threads I might’ve missed?

I would skip the cam. The 73 has low compression and it would be very easy to over cam the engine. You could actually make the car slower. The 73 quadrajet, if original, is an 800 CFM model. Do the headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust. Have the carburetor rebuilt/jetted, and optimize your ignition. The stock intake is actually pretty good, an aluminum intake will save some weight, that's about it.

Needs a Rob Ross Q jet.
I dumped my manifold on my 73. Have a performer now.
If a cam swap. Get one for torque. Very mild.

Ignition tuning first. Exhaust improvements can't hurt.

You need pistons before you need cam.

Nothing wrong with the carb, but it should be recalibrated.

The ignition and carb tuning may need more than one iteration as the other upgrades are applied.
