Some help, please.... What was the original material and color of the material applied to the 1972 Skylark or GS hood hinges? Assuming that the original material is no longer available, what is the modern day equivalent of the material and/or color? Also, I see that Hood Hinge Repair (i.e., Willie Wilson at HoodHingeRepair.com) offers application of various gloss-levels of black powder coatings and Eastwood Zinc Phosphate, etc paint coatings. Assuming that one of the Eastwood or Seymour paint coatings is the closest match to the original color, will the paint coating applied to the springs and assembled hinges be durable enough to withstand a 10+ years of service? Thank you in advance for your help.
Cast iron coat spray paint,..the engine enamel,...any parts store,...close enough for anything other than a Concours car
Thank you, Dave. So far I only know of two outfits here in Orange County, CA that applies gray phosphate, but they only do large lots for commercial clients. I'll keep looking though. Thank you, Hugger. Yeah, that's a possible option, plus HHR will also apply Eastwood Gray Phosphate paint on my hinges... For a fee, of course. I'm a little concerned about the durability of paint, though. I'll figure out something.
You can also spray with this to get a very close to gray phosphate finish. Also works wonders on exhaust manifolds as it is impervious to the heat. Inexpensive and effective. https://www.slipplate.com/product/slip-plate-aerosol
Yes I've been queried online now the video of my Stage 1 is up prior to the auction, In the video I think it's a trick of the light that they look to be rusty, also there's mention of the unpainted bolt heads along top of the radiator support panel. I've just presumed they were unpainted factory. Anyone know? I'm just following up on my post from yesterday in the Bench.
