Hi , my name is Pete. Interested in documenting my gsx . It looks as though most members r familiar with this car. Is finding paperwork hopeless?

Should be available from the Sloan Museum. Do a search on it as I know there have been threads on it that will tell you what ou need to do.

Since your car has been through a total restoration, and you apparently do not have factory documentation(?), it seems that may be the case here. (Note Brad's correction of Fred's post.) Is there any opportunity to trace back through prior owners to try to obtain factory papers?

    Pete,

I have some resources which can go back several decades in most cases. I would have to discuss with you directly, though. I have helped many others in this area. PM me your contact info.

Without some form of paperwork (build sheet, window sticker, original invoice, etc), you can't. There are no records available, unlike 1970 or 1972 model year GSX's.

The paperwork documentation you are seeking most likely will never be found, unless a previous owner steps up to the plate. At this point,I feel if there were Sloan records or even if Buick had the documentation,it would have surfaced by now. There are tell tale signs that will help identify a possible GSX compared to a GS car. Things to look for are low body number and build date on the cowl are a step in the right direction.Trunk rod size most likely would be indicative as well. There are other signs as well. The biggest isue is dtermining it it's a small block vs Big block, but vin numbers stamped o the trans and motor again will be helpful. Personally,I don't think the paperwork for a 71 built in and sold in the US will ever surface undortunately. You will just have to take peoples word.

The car has correct trunk lid and trunk rod. Factory spoiler ( correct measurments, weight and drain holes ). Also has 3.42's , rear sway bar and matching numbers trans. It has the big block steering knuckle with manual steering. Rally steering wheel an the X dash. It is flint built with dash tach. If this car had paper saying it was an X, stage ,4 speed. What would it be worth you think? Minimal options but beautifully restored. It would be one of how many?

There is no factory information from which one can make that determination. There is no information to even say the split of GSX350 versus GSX455s for the 71 model year.

Did this car come from Lynn MA ? There was one in Lynn years ago myself and my friend were looking at to buy and restore. We still see the guy at cruise nights who owned it for many years before it was sold to someone in Vermont and then fully restored. I can try and get the name of the previous owner. If I remember correctly the GSX we looked at was originally a 1971 GSX 350 4speed car.

The owner I am talking about would have sold it to Bill Bayless you mentioned in a previous post. How long did Bill own it ? Possibly bought it and then resold to Pete ? I will have the original owners info soon and will let you know
