There are numerous threads on here but the short story as I understand it is, you need original paperwork, matching numbers on the engine and trans frame ect. There is no way to tell a GS 350 from GS 455 From a GS 455 Stage 1 by the VIN. There is a different frame part number for the big block cars. The steering shaft has a bolt on rag joint on big blocks. Basically yiou need to either have the matching number TS block and OW or BB trans. These both have the partial VIN stamped on them. The rear end should have 3.42 gears. Also the car will need to have disc brakes as this was std on all big block GS 71 for 71. Get the carb and dist numbers and someone here can tell you if they are original also

    No M22s from the factory.

The partial VIN on the 4 speed is vertical on the passenger side just forward of where the tailshaft mates.

There are some cars that have sold recently. Matching number car needing resto 20 to 25k fully restored 60 to 75k or more 4 spd will add a lot say 20-25 percent over an auto. Color makes a big diff on these cars also. Earth tones are cheaper than red, blue , black but the big deal is the matching number stage 1 and a 4 spd in a drop top it is very rare. for value its very hard to value a car like this because the prices have been all over the place and if your selling a top notch car make sure you do not go to a no reserve auction:)

I believe the car you speak of has already been sold.

If you know that much about the sale, do you know how much it brought selling price?

The owner was asking 30k when I spoke to him. I assume that is what he got for it, he was pretty firm at that price. Also included some nos body parts. He knew what the car was and had purchased it from the original owner years back. It is in Marcos registry.

An M21 will have a B as the last charecter in the date and ID codes on the side of the trans,

As far as the car being sold, maybe you are right, maybe the new owner has interest in selling it,I just got curious about a neat car.I have several rare collector cars, and love the hunt and learning from experts such as on this board, and it seems that in many ways everything is for sale.but maybe not,who knows?
