I have the said tranny in my car. I have adjusted the TV cable & have good solid shifts. I do not want to shorten the adjustment anymore.
The problem that exists is the quick shifts 1-2 & 2-3. I read that the governor my need to be serviced or changes made to allow the trans to shift to the nest gears at higher rps or velocity. I do not want the trans to fail in the 3-4 cluster.
I am sure some of u fellows have experienced this problem. What was your solution? Tkx

Similar to THM350. Trial and error. Buy another governor and modify that one. That way, you can go back easily.

The VALVE BODY. I changed to a Newer 700r4 valve body and solved my short shifts 1234 with in 50 feet...THAT was VERY annoying and I put up with it for 25 years. I use to shift manually when I wanted to run performance stuff Drag racing burn outs etc.

HAd the tranny done again they switch to a newer late 90's valve body and problem solved... 1 gear stays and 2 stays ...shifts just like the 350th and 400th of old days...
I am not saying that is your issue...BUT this is the issue I had and it got solved with a different GM valve body.

Trans is a 1984 7004r in 1984 T/A. Car has 20000 miles and thus has had to sit long periods of time or was driven only a few mile each time out.
what is the purpose of changing governor springs? wide open shift points? The weights regulate shift points - normal acceleration from a start?
Not wanting wot only normal driving.

i DID THE CORRECTION AS i KNOW MY DAUGHTERS WOULD BE DRIVING THE CAR AND i DID NOT WANT THEM SHIFTING at an early age until they got use to doing stuff like that...Do not need them sliding up into reverse and such...LOL. :D

Just think if "slap shift" was available like in the Chrysler vehicles for a couple years, back in the day.

I filed a notch in my selector plate for the Chevy Horse shoe shifter in the 1971 Monte Carlo SS pull it back into first to launch then all I have to do is shove the shifter hard towards the dash and then it would get hooked in the slot then 2-3 I can pull the trigger and slide into the 3rd gear. worked well for me for years.
