Paperwork on this convertible states “oversize H78-14 whitewall tires” on chrome plated wheels. I’m good on the wheels, but where can I get a correct tire for it?

Please dont put whitewalls on that car!!! That car is screaming for G70-14 Firestone Wide Ovals

Not really my call...I can see both sides of the fence, though. I like the oddity of seeing the wheel/tire combo that the car was ordered with, but I would expect to see wide ovals on it. Soooo...

I do get a kick out of Mike's 71 Stage convertible 4 speed with volcano hubcaps and dual stripe whitewalls.

George, I believe I saw WE on the back of those wheels today.

I like the idea of the originals and like Mike's '71 too - It stands out with the volcanos. Not sure I could go with the whitewalls either on the convertible (would have to think hard on that one) but Redlines would also look good. My '70 GS 350 4-sp stripper came with whitewalls and Deluxe Wheelcovers (volcanos) and I'm going to put on redlines but keep the volcanos.

My 70 GS Stage 1 4 speed convertible was ordered with 14” chrome plated wheels and whitewall tires as well... I couldn’t do it. I have 15” chrome plated wheels with white letter tires on it. The 14” Wheels are stacked up in my garage.

I’ve the s as me problems with finding 8.85-15 for the Wildcats. J-78-15 is as close as I can get

Are dual stripe whitewalls a 71 only deal?

    Adam,
I believe they started in 71. I don't know if they were used after that, but I do not think they were available for 70.

Just so you know as far as judging, we would accept any size/type tire that was available for that year.

Regarding the dual stripe whitewall question...I did a search on the board and came up with a photo of the 70 wheel option page in the color and trim book. They are all wearing dual stripe whitewalls.

I only ask because I can get them new...and they are much more palatable than the single crappy 1" whitewall that is my only other option (besides G70 wide ovals)

I believe you could do 14" red lines also.

I will see if the 70 assembly manuals show the tires as single or double white walls.

The Red Lines would look great on that car.
