you are a lucky guy to own a car like that. i have the same car in black and i know I'm very fortunate to own it. i wish i had all the paper work you have. enjoy the car and keep it orig if you can. drive it like you stole it lol johnny
Interesting & IMHO good to have. My report also has the "2-0 Unknown" and my car also has a "Z" on the trim tag. IIRC, there was another thread on here recently where these two items were common. I'll have to see if I can remember which car we were discussing but I may have brought this point up at that time as well. I think is was @fastdavedk's oddball '70 GS 455 which like mine didn't have a non-recommended interior color. @Jim Jones does have a car w/a non-recommended interior color but has also surmised that the "Z" could represent other oddities. Assuming he has a Wayne Robert's/Sloan report on the car it'd be interesting to see if it (or anyone else's) has both the "Z" and "2-0 Unknown" or better yet if all of them do.
Intriguing back story on acquring your 1970 GS Stage 1. Great looking GS and I am sure it's in the right hands, now that you own it. Here's a recent picture of Johnny's GS Stage 1 4-speed and my 1986 Grand National. Nando.
I don't think it'be unusual (or not) to have the wheels all w/the same date code. Like most low production parts, they were made in batches. Those batches in thisncase being 5 parts/car also probably got intermingled.
Great story and what a coincidence! The archeological dig is almost as much fun as driving them. I was able to track down all but one (original) owner but I don't really count that since they owned the car less than a few months before it was repossessed. Keep at it. Google and the internet are certainly your friend in instances like this.
Not unusual in the least. Once owned this car, and all 5 original wheels were dated 1-14. Have also owned earlier cars with all wheels dated the same (12-11 etc.) My GSX wheels however are mismatched with some (WG stamped) wheels dated 4-2 and others dated 4-9. Likely wheels/tires were just grabbed from stock by the assembly line employee, and as new stock arrived, the likelihood for mismatch increased.
I was thinking after reading your conversation with the 74 yr old son that maybe his parents might have also owned another GS and he’s possibly thinking of it with the black interior and stripes?
