Unfortunately due to health issues I must sell my 1970 Stage 1. After 6 cervical fusions, and 14 or 15 other surgeries, I have decided I can’t do this anymore. I am requesting your thoughts on the value of the car. A little about it: silver Mist, Black vinyl top, JW’s stroked 470, 413 swap cam. Bench seat, automatic TH400, AC. Factory replacement block, Mallory ignition, JW fuel pump. I have the Wayne Roberts report, it is listed on the Stage 1 listing. I will try to put some pics out. I am not aware of any rust on this car. It was frame on restoration in 93 or 94. I welcome your thoughts on value or price point. I have owned this car since 91, thx, Thanking you in advance. Byron
As shown on the Wayne Roberts report. I like the color combo and have always been a sucker for vinyl top cars. Since it is non-original drive train, bench seat, column shift car, I think 40k may be a reasonable asking price. This '70 Silver mist Stage1 with similar options was recently listed at a dealer in the Seattle area for $44k, but it never made it to the lot it appears. It was more stock appearing, which if I were a buyer I find more appealing. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it. This '72 Stage1 was listed here and sold recently. It moved very quickly at the asking price in their ad here. Just meant as a reference point. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/72-stage-1-nom-for-sale.366632/
I think 35-$40k (ish) is about right. That color combo has really grown on me over the years. I'll send a link to someone who I think would be interested but he's having his own health issues. Sorry to hear that health issues are forcing your hand here.
Thank you all for your response - I believe I am going to have someone sell for me via consignment. They are thinking a reserve of 35k (give or take a few hundred) and listing somewhere in the low 40s. I have not had to touch this car since Jim built the motor a few years back - it is a full roller motor, I have not raced this motor - but is a dream to drive - Jim has been very helpful through the years as has the folks at TA. Thank you again - b
Personally, I think it would be great if you gave the board a shot at it without involving a 3rd party but I can see where having someone else sell it saves you time and potentially heartache.
Wow, some great information from all of you folks - I did get an offer of 40 from a person that lives about 20 minutes from me - he says he is a Buick guy, has a few older Buicks. The worst part of selling is, my grandson (14) loves this car - he is broken hearted as he thought it would be his. This is way to much car for a soon to have a permit drivers license. Thanks to you all - Byron
Thanks again to you all - I will be posting for sale on this board. I am posting on Facebook at 41, here less than that. B
Idle thought. Is it possible to hold onto the car for your grandson and sell something else? Allow the young man to mature before inheriting it?? Here's hoping you feel better. I sincerely hope your health improves. I also think $40 sounds reasonable. Am I reading correctly that it has the original Stage 1 heads on a replacement block that has been worked? Also, you mention "factory" replacement block. If it was something done under factory warranty many yrs ago, I could see that adding a little more to the value, as opposed to a later, engine swap.
Cooterbfd, I purchased the car from Hoxie, KS. I talked with the original owner. She told me the motor was a factory replacement -(her husband had passed) I have no other information. I have decided to list on Facebook and on the V8board. I probably should have done that from the get go. But I didn’t. Thank you for your thoughts. B
That's good, relevant information!!! My opinion is that beats someone 35 yrs ago throwing a stage 1 455 from a '73 in (for example) because they blew a hole in the original. Leads one to believe it was dealer installed......kind official. Best wishes with the sale......better wishes with your health
