Do you guys know the widest tire size that will fit on a 70 Electra without modification?

My 66 225 has 70s on it, they barely fit with the skirts on.
    I think the tires were 235 R70 15 that I put on.

Is your electra using stock steel or rally rims? I'm wondering how much of a offset the rally rims have so I can put wider tires on.

235 70 15 fits no problem in my 70 wildcat. A 275 60 15 will fit the rear with the right rim with the right offset, there's not much room left in there and I'm not sure how much more the fenders tuck in on an Electra vs wildcat and if you want to use skirts.

My Electra has the 1970s version of the rallye wheels.

I'll see if I can get out there and check the tire size and confirm what's on there right now.

I just put 235 70R15's (they are closest to the stock diameter for my 67) on the stock steel wheels and had to jack the car way up to get the tire up past the quarter panel and the drum. It was basically the bracket for the skirt that caused the restricted space, and with new shocks the axle didn't drop as far. Once it was in place on the studs, lots of clearance. The old tires were 225's on a set of Ralley's and they cleared without a problem.

Just checked mine, they're 235 R70 15, and while they're a little tight looking, they fit with no problem and there is no sidewall rub.

Does your car have fender skirts? My 70 just wouldnt look the same without them.

Yes, it has skirts, and yes, you're right; they look kind of funny without them. Same with my Wildcat, it actually looks better with the skirts, suits the lines.
