Hi My wife just bought a 69 Skylark custom convertible. But I need some help decoding the firewall tag. It looks like this Is trim 188, black? Is it bucket seats or? Is SCO a special company order? Maybe its the paint that are special order. I can't find color number 1946 anywhere. This car has bucket seats, it has a console but no floor shift, is this unusual? Somebody told me that the console is from a newer Skylark. I hope someone can help me with this questions.
In 1969 Trim 188 = black in color interior with bucket seats. SCO = special car order. I think it was discussed in the past that the number following the SCo has nothing to do with the paint code. It was an internal Buick number to ID the paperwork which contains the reason or in this case color associated with the SCo. To my belief that paperwork is not available. So dig around in the car and you will see evidence of the original color. Then use a light gun to get the code. I have seen other cars with the buckets and column shift. Also I believe the original engine in your 57 Olds was a 361 cid Olds and not a 461 cid.
Hi And thanks for the answer.:TU: What do the B indicate, is it black convertible? Were can I find the engine numbers on the engine? The engine in the 57 Olds, is a modifed 69 455cid.
Yes B is for a balck convert top. White is usually and A in the scheme. You say that is a borred 69 455 Olds bored in the 57? Nice piece there for sure.
Jim, dos'nt the SCO(special Corporate Order) and a number after it indicate that the paint was a special order color and the number is the color that maybe another manufacturer? I know the plum crazy Stage-1 had this.
Yes. I think that was the agreement from past posts. I was just saying that the number is not a paint code number. I am not sure that it must represent a code from another manf. Perhaps it could be from another model year Buick. I have a tank sheet from a 70 SCO Buick but I could not tell you the reason for the SCo. It was something other than paint.
Engine numbers? Anybody who can identifie this engine? I dont think it's the original engine, but I dont know. The engine code numbers seems to be. D355 and the engine serial is 4712(or Z)15(or 3)4055 The carburetor is rochester 7024244KA
Under the conveention I think 702 was a 60s carb and the next digit suggests it is from a 1964 model. Maybe a 300 cid?
I did a search on google and i did find this info. 1968 350" ENG LESABRE SKYLARK HIGH PERF 7028244, 245 ROCHESTER 4MV 2062 1969 350" ENG LESABRE SKYLARK HIGH PERF 7029244, 245 ROCHESTER 4MV 2062 1970 350" ENG LESABRE SKYLARK HIGH PERF 7040244, 245 ROCHESTER 4MV 2062 But the engine code D355, should have a meaning for someone.
Engine codes for Buicks are usually two letters. Check on the deck of the block around the dipstick hole.
I have checked it again and the engine code is D355 and the engine serial is 4712154055. They are at the same place as on this picture. http://buicks.net/shop/reference/engine_ident_where.html
Pic is not posted but the code is two leters like "RP" for 69 etc. The code will vary by year. You may be thinking of a julian date code while I am thinking of the engine model and year code.
I would drop the fuel tank and look for a built sheet... Most of the 69 SCO cars were special paint- either dashes or a single dash. First time I have seen SCO spelled out on a 69 tag... Anyone else seen this ON A 69???
Hi Good idea. I will try to get it down this afternoon. I suppose that the only place I could find one. Because the interior upholstered at some time, I suppose that, if there have been a build sheet inside the car, it's gone now. I am really curious about this SCO thing.:idea2: Hi CJP69 It could be a 2 paint job, but I have been looking for the original color and arround the door hinges, it looks like the original color is Cortez Silver Poly. After that it have been white, blue metallic, red and finally black. But since they have skipped the color code on the tag, I suppose that the SCO, have something with the paint to do. But I really don,t know.o No: Would have been nice too se others SCO firewall tags.
Chris It's possible but the paint code is - B preceded by the SCO1946, need to find out what the SCO was. Maybe Mike Trom can enlighten us but the DCR indicates that two tone paint schemes would be D99 Code for GS
Hi I will try to get the gas tank down today and look for the build sheet. My health is a little bit up and down, because I am mercury poisoned since I use to have amalgam in my teeth's. So its difficult plan the next day.:boring: But I looks like the gas tank, never have been removed, so there should be possible to find something.:eek2:
