I just thought you were gonna drop in a 455 and call it a day. Then it becomes an entire frame off! This is a very cool project. You gonna keep the third pedal?
Found out that i have 3:73s in the rear end, i rebuild the drums and sealed her up. Rear suspension is in New Trailing arm Bushings, and a CPP lowering Kit + Blocks
used to be a member with white 4wd one on here that had a buick engine iirc. idr if it was a big block or small block.
rear end is done... i just have to tighten up everything once i have full load on it. Wheels and tires are sorted out for now ( until i change my mind LOL) 17x8 019 Silverado 6lug Steelies i got for 40$ a set. i used a 1in adapter in the back to get a lil bit a staggered look 275/55 Rear ; 235/55 Front i like the look of Roadkills Muscletruck with the Steelies I had to get 73-87 Square body FRAME pads/towers the 67-72 dont allow you to bolt up the B-Body mounts so i have to wait a bit before i can sit her in there...
Good to see there is some one else crazy enough to put a 455 Buick in a 1969 Chevy C/10! Hey, I am keeping my GM vehicle all GM. I used the A body frame pads and motor mounts and fabricated a pair of frame mounts. Put the trans mount in the factory position for a TH400, put the motor mounts in the most rearward position on the block, and then made the frame mounts to fit. Did not have to drill any holes, but I did notch the frame for the oil filter. I quickly gave up on long tube headers, and I don’t even think shorties would fit, but manifolds fit nicely. I have really enjoyed the abundance of torque that the Buick 455 produces in my truck!
That is awesome. Thanks it will help me I will move my mounts to the b body position. I noticed I ll get to close to the firewall when having the mounts in the ABody pos.(1+3). I also saw that the oil filter might hit the frame as well as the Power steering. I saw a guy on the C10 forum using the 73-87 c10 frame mounts, so I try this 1st but would be interested on how you fabbed the frame brackets. How does she run? Is it a built 455? Or modded?
Wish I had taken some pics of the frame mounts I made. Basically they are flat 1/8” mild steel with some bends, and then another piece of 1/8” mild steel shaped and welded perpendicular to the underside. Then drilled holes to match the factory holes in the frame and front crossmember. Oh also, my cab is the low hump and the trans clears with ease. I am not sure why, but Chevrolet mounted the engine in V8 automatic trucks a bit further forward compared to manual transmission trucks. The 455 is modded a bit, but really fairly mild: Mildly ported iron stage 1 heads, B4B intake, 800 CFM Q-Jet, TA 212 cam, lighter pistons, 9.75:1 CR, ARP rod bolts in factory rods, reworked HEI, opened up the outlets in the exhaust manifolds, and 2 1/2” dual exhaust. Stock converter and 3.73 posi. Well, it runs pretty fabulous-the torque is amazing-very strong from 1500 to 5500 RPM. Really a blast to drive! Does burnouts with ease. Love making runs to the home improvement store-hauls butt on the way there and hauls the load on the way back. Gets 10 MPG on a steady diet of non-ethanol 91 octane premium. Might do 12 MPG if I could keep my foot out of it….
Well, yes, that would be nice, but I would have to put about 40,000 miles on the truck to recoup the cost of a gear vendors from the improvement in MPG. And then there is the installation, and well, I am in the if it ain’t broke don’t fix it mode-previously in the if it ain’t broke I’ll fix it till it is mode.
great i am excited, i might plan with a EFI system down the road. i have a Sniper on my 68 GS twin turbo and it works really well., that could be something for the 455 as well, but 1st i make her run as is. I keep the th400 as well, same reason ...ill drive her but definitly not enough for the investment. Do you have more pics of your Truck or videos i would love to hear the sound
A few pics of the truck. I will have to see if I can round up a video. It is stock other than the motor, wheels, and a tach and oil pressure and temperature gauges.
Oh man, that post was way longer than necessary, but these are videos of the only two runs I have made with the truck at the track.
