I have a 69 buick wikdcat i been putting back together with the 3 speed auto so now my question is can the fluid flow from the cooler any direction? There's 2 metal lines running from the trans to up towards the engine does it matter which hose goes where to the cooler? Also how many qts of trans fluid this thing take? Ps im not a mechanic .
I think usually the fluid comes into the cooler up higher and exits lower? At leasing in the factory setup I am pretty sure. Which 3 Speed transmission are you referring to?
This is how it should be connected. I believe it has about 22 quarts, but you never get all of it out. A lot of it remains in the torque converter. I think I first added 6 after pan removal. If it engages you're in the right ballpark. But immediately check, you don't want to ruin your pump.
I think that you mean 22 pints, not quarts. They hold about 10-12 quarts after a rebuild, probably only 5-7 quarts after a filter change.
You want the fluid to enter the cooler at the bottom and exit at the top....this will purge the air out ofvthe cooler so it stays full
