Hi guys, Is the 68 tilt column turn signal switch really different than a non tilt switch. I've found conflicting info at various retailers and on forums. The switches 'look' the same. Thank you
I am NOT an expert, but I do own a 68 GS with tilt column. Back in the 80's my turn signal switch wouldn't return to the off position after making a turn. I got one out of the junkyard and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a tilt column. They're kinda rare.
FWIW.....I asked the man that rebuilt my tilt column that same question and he said they have different part numbers but are both the same switch. This is from a guy that has rebuilt hundreds of columns as a business.
Comparing to the switch in my 68 standard column, it looks the same. Wasn't sure if I was missing some minor difference.
Updating. I installed the standard column T/S switch and on first sight it does seem to fit and function just like the tilt specific switch. However, the T/S stalk mounting boss on the switch is a little thicker than my old switch. This may be because I opted for the cheap switch allegedly made in the USA or it's an actual design difference. The result is once the stick is screwed to the boss, the stick drags on the edge of the opening in the column. My plan is to "hot shoe" the stick into the switch hopefully imbedding it about 1/32" to clear the opening.
