    HI Guys,

Looking for some guidance on removing the dash pad and cluster Bezel on a 68 GS. I have some work to do on the heater controls install a new radion and need to restore the "chrome" section of the bezel

Hoping you guys can point out the way before i start breaking things. Car is complete and i know its a bear to get anything for a 68.

If you have any suggestions please let me know. thanks

Drop the cover under the steering column.
Disconnect the small inter connect link for the shift indicator. It is a small wire pice about 3/4 inch and looks like a figure 8 . If you don't, you will bend/break it, or the the needle link. With wheels blocked, pull the shift lever down towards "Low" to help remove it. I always use some very thin bell wire to make a "pull" to help pull and hold the needle when I put the "8 link" back in later.

Some of the cluster housing mount points are likely to be cracked/broken from age/heat/shock.

I have the plastic powder and monocrylic repair kit. It is great stuff, but takes a little time to do repairs.

Do you have the '68 shop manual?

If not, I can take pics and post them, rather than type it all out.

There are quite a few "points" that need to be followed and I don't want to risk leaving any out, or put in wrong order.

The "link" thing is not real well explained, so that is why I scribbled all that stuff up there. ^^^

    Thanks Trunk Monkey,

I have a console shifter so I think I'm good as there is no indicator in the dash.

If yo can post those pics I would be in your debt!

    Thanks

I went through this about 6-months ago with my 69 GS400, when I had the electrical short. While this article is for the 70-72 dash, it was close enough to really help me out. I didn't break anything either:

Did just about complete resto on my 68 dash last year . I knew through owning 3 68’s the HVAC was going to be a horror show. The bezel was labor intensive too . Lots of pictures, if I could do it , no doubt you’ll figure it out too .Any questions ask away .
