I met a guy up here a few years ago who claimed to have bought one new when he was 17 or 18, then sold it a couple of years later. He lost track of it after that. Without any photos to verify its existence, I was skeptical.

The seller is a bit mistaken with a few of the details. There were actually nine (9) 3-speeds made in the '67 GS400 convertibles and there is no breakdown available for the paint colors. He also says it is midnight blue but the photos look black and the body trim tag confirms it was originally black. But even at nine, it's still very rare. I've never seen one in person.

The trim tag shows that it was originally black with a blue top which would look strange but to make it even more strange is the fact that the black cars got red pinstripes down the sides. Let that combination sink in...heck maybe it would be so weird that it would look cool.

Jim, (and others), I found my old issue of 'Collectible Auto' that featured three of the late Larry Miller's '67s; the dark green convertible is a bucket seat console shift auto car. They also featured his red 'vert with a manual and buckets but I can't tell if it's three or four speed. Likewise his blue coupe is shown but not described, although I remember it from the Atlanta GS Roundups as being a three speed car with front discs. As an aside he was a class act, as is Karen.

Why are you interested in a 3-sp instead of 4-sp?

I am not interested in buying this car or a 3 speed manual tranny, its just that when i look @ the local listings on craigslist it shows up there and its being discussed on the board here. I personally love the 63 body style and currently have 2 (63)skylarks hdtps, 1 of which is 80% done ($12,000 plus invested). I have a T-5, 5 speed manual bolted up to my 215. I am looking for a 63 skylark or special convertible.

Was just wondering, was as late as a 1967 a non synchro first gear? I had a few mid 60's Chev's (66s) that were fully non synchrod' (LOL) column shifters with 6 bangers... ws

GS 3-speed these were sourced from Ford - HD, topload, full synchro. 65- 69
65 Wilddcat column shift used (I think the name is ) Warner T-89 , not synched in 1st gear.
I just looked at the 67 Chassis Manual and it indicates the A body standard duty, ie column shift was synchronized in all forward gears.

FYI, the seller of this car has posted on Facebook (on THE BUICK STAGE PAGE) about this PayPal payment problem and now has the car offered on Facebook for $5000. So it looks like the car may be resold soon if someone steps up.

5k for a couple badges that need restoration and a vin tag to slap on a decent doner body is sure a lot of money. Pretty much the only things that will be original on that heap
